Not sure many have seen it this cold. Block heater and synthetic oil (Mobil 1 5w-30 EP) seem to have helped.

Hey, that's like Lapland weather right there! :)

Perhaps you should do a cold weather guide to the Patriot? I live so far south that I've only had mine in somewhat below -20°C, so I lack the experience in extreme cold weather to do it myself...

(Also, I see it did not occur to you to stop to take that photo?! )

Couple of weeks ago we had -31°C and in the neighbor municipality they had -40°C. Luckily I didn't need to drive on those days so if I remember right, -26°C has been the lowest reading on my Pat's display.

I also have block heater, of course, and the synthetic engine oil Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30.

This is about as cold as I've run my Pat. I had 5w20 Mobil1 synthetic and it started right up. Never really warmed up much, and my coffee steamed up the windows right quick.

Damn, that is cold!!! The weather here is NS may be crudy some days but the coldest I saw this winter was -20 and that about a month ago during our cold snap.

I have felt temps like that before in the freezer facilities where I work. They are at -40 to keep frozen goods. Cold enough that it sometimes snows inside the building. :D

Yes it was very cold. All I can recommend is:

  • Block heater is a must
  • Synthetic oil is a strong recommendation
  • Full tank of good quality gas
  • Do not slam or bang any doors or something will come off

I wonder if we have anyone from Alaska? When I was there in the Army we had -45F temps, and they would like to take a bucket of hot water outside and throw it up in the air, the water would turn into ice crystals and just float away.

I realize -25 isn't cold by Canadian standards, but January 2009 it got to -25F here in southern NH. I don't have the cold weather package and at that temp Ignatz groaned a little before starting. Even though it was nearly new, it was garaged outdoors because I didn't trust the antifreeze in the other car (garage isn't heated, but it stays above 0F).

I gotta tell ya that same day I saw a flock of robins in a parking lot in Concord. I wish I'd gotten a photo of the dash reading together with the birds. Did they forget to go south or come back early? And how do they get worms out of the ground at that temperature?
