Great!
I've always run tall, "skinny" tires on my offroaders. When I'm asked why I'm running "pizza cutters", I ask those folks to consider these old films of these vintage cars successfully traversing rough terrain with their stock tires. (rock climbing does require a bigger footprint, but I don't run rocks). My limited HP has a lot to do with that choice as well :).

You noticed that too. :) Some how I knew you would.
Look at the other "amazing" video. Even though there is 3' of snow everywhere else, the road only has 8". Those films were well produced to show the old T in the best light.

fascinating video, but I hardly think 20 hp will outdrive the Jeep. The skinny tires and lightweight body sure helped the T though! These are the same things that make he Patriot so good offroad - light and small.

That and the driver's desire to not have a migraine from bouncing around constantly.

Lots of things have influenced vehicle design...

Safety, Comfort, Aerodynamics, Technology, Style

I swear, this thing can drive over things the Patriot would get stuck in/on!
Well, the demonstrations did take full advantage of the ground clearance of the vehicle, which is higher than on a Patriot (especially the break-over angle). Other than the clearance issue, I didn't really see the Ford doing things that a Patriot could not do. (Granted, saying "well my vehicle could do that if it had more ground clearance" does not change the fact that without the clearance, it would get stuck in that sand slope...) And if we were to compare the vehicles going up a soft sand slope, I would wager things would look a little different. :)

Nice articulation in the suspension though! And pretty good driving, too. :)

Yes, and on the bag last year they were sponsoring a NASCAR CHEVY!!! Blasphemy!
