My Patriot has about 1500 miles and I started to notice a smell / odor from A/C whenever I turned on the A/C for the first time everyday. The smell would last for about 1 to 3 seconds and then you won't smell it anymore. What would be the problem or it is normal during the hot summer days?

It sounds like moisture is puddling somewhere in the system. Doesn't drain, when the AC is turned on you get the "pond" smell until it evaporates. Sound's like you should bring it in and have them check the drainage system. Good luck!

This morning when I turned my AC On, I noticed a slight moldy/musty odor. It went away after a few seconds. Basically just like wyp1688 described in his/her post.

I wonder if there is a design problem if multiple people are experiencing it. There might be some collection area that is getting overwhelmed. Its been really hot here in Cleveland so I have been using it on and off.

I always make sure to turn off the AC a few miles before I get home so everything dries up.

My Wrangler is 9 years old and I've never had this happen so this is interesting. I have slight mold allergies so I will need to look into this one.

(btw..My Patriot was built March, but bought it in June - 2400 miles on it)

I read a review that the Pat A/C was pretty week, is this true? I was wondering, just in case I land up in a warm climate, I don't want to sweat to death. I can't remember the review that said it, but I think it might be Truck Trends.

It's not the strongest I have felt for sure.
But it has kept me cool here and we are in the middle of 90+ degree days with 100% humidity.

Mine does surge with low rpm's.

Back seat vents would have been a nice addition.
