When installing a hitch, would you get the oil/transmission cooler offered by mopar for like 140, or would you buy a radiator cooler for like 70? Do you need the oil cooler part?

the factory option is an oil cooler, not a tranny cooler.

if I were pulling 1000 lbs or less, I'd get neither. over 1000 lbs, I'd get the oil cooler for sure!

The Pat is speced to pull 1000 without oil cooler and 2000 with oil cooler.

For the full 2000lb tow rating, you would need the oil cooler or an oil cooler that cools as effectively as the OEM one if you don't want them having an excuse to void your warranty. Personally I would do the OEM one as I never had a ton of luck with the rubber hoses lasting very long with hot oil running through them. At least the OEM one just has coolant hoses going to/from it.

:confused::confused:

I just installed my OEM oil cooler and there are no lines that have oil running through them. It's basically a heat exchanger oil filter mount (relocates the oil filer about 5 inches lower). Coolant runs through it, oil touches no rubber.

Oil cooler is always a good idea, as your engine will thank you for it.:smiley_thumbs_up:

Like many have said anything over 1000 lbs (even a little), go with the OEM oil/engine cooler.

Some would say it is not a bad idea anyway to keep things running cool. A little overhead is never a bad thing.
