Hi everyone!
Drove my 2015 Patriot Sport 2wd 2.4 5mt off the lot on August 13, 2015 with 10 miles on the odometer.
This is my first Jeep, and actually my first new vehicle ever. In fact, I've never even had a car payment before, and what's this cool warranty thingy I have now?? haha
My neighbor got one, which sparked my curiosity to get online and research. I was actually looking at "the small turbo cars" (Chevy Sonic/Cruze, Ford Fiesta/Focus ST, Dodge Dart Aero), the Honda Accord Sport 6mt, and the new EcoBoost Mustangs.
I never would have imagined owning a 2wd, let alone front wheel drive, Jeep vehicle, seems blasphemous on the surface... but, I did a lot of thinking and it really wasn't irrational at all. It does everything I need it to do, and nothing I don't.
I'm a 110% gearhead, and work as a technician at a Honda/Acura specific shop for a living. I do not want to have to constantly maintain and repair my daily driver after working on everyone else ride all day, so that's the main reason I made this leap. All manual everything, no options I don't need. Nothing expensive to tear up over time.
It's comfortable, has plenty of room to haul my junk and my friends around. I very, VERY specifically wanted something with a manual transmission, which is getting to be a real chore to find these days. Also seems drops off the list on most cars as trim levels, and especially engine size, go up (which I think is insane!)
Decent power for a 4cyl SUV brick, along with decent fuel mileage.
Outside of the somewhat expensive Wrangler, the only "Jeep looking" model left in the lineup. looks to me like what I feel the Cherokee should have evolved into, appearance-wise.
Finding a 4x4 Pat with a 5mt was near impossible without ordering one, and one of the main reasons I left with this particular one was the price. Nearing the 2016 models coming in, and it being an "unwanted" 5mt, I got a KILLER price on it. They had 4 manual transmission Sport models in stock, two white, one gray, and one black, all 2wd. Loved the look of the black, but hey scratches are magnetic to black. Also of the 4, mine was the only one with the 2.4, that made it a done deal.
Seriously, I can get this much vehicle, for cheaper than a Honda Civic... and that's at MSRP. Okay, I'm definitely interested now.
Sitting back and thinking logically, I would not be buying a brand-new shiny off-roader to wear it out and scratch it up immediately. This is meant to be a commuter for me and peace of mind in owning something that's not worn out and/or rebuilt. I already own several of those! So no, I really don't need the 4wd option, especially when we're talking several thousand dollars, a bigger payment, and slightly less MPG.
Anyways, it's my first week in, and I love the thing! I'm gonna stop rambling for now, and get back to enjoying my new ride, and looking for functional accessories to buy :Racing:
