I'm real close to pulling the trigger on a 2010 Patriot 4WD Sport, manual transmission, with the Tire and Wheel Group as the only option, for $16363 including incentives or $18134 out-the-door. Decisions decisions! This may be the right time?

No Way!!! I live in Cali and just bought my 2010 4x4 jeep patriot march 7th. Turns out when all was said in done, he accidentally sold me the 4x2 model at $15,420!!! I realized this after I looked at the papers and they were like "oh" sorry, we can sell you the 4x4 but its $600 more!!! Still I received the base model 4x4 at 16,250 (plus add on all the lovely taxes! )

Going to order power locks and cruise control shortly!

Def pull the trigger though, I love the variable transmission and already took my jeep to my dads and kicked it in all wheel and had a blast!

What the hell is the matter with north American car salesmaen & their lack of product knowedge??? One guy even got a 4x2 home when he had ordered a 4x4. When I was in car sales , I spent my spare work time studying brochurs, group stock, price lists & going on training meetings. If I went into ScrewFix I wouldnt go in for a hammer & get sold a saw!!!!

You were one of the good ones. I was in sales & sales management (food industry) for a number of years and its surprising how many sales reps never even read their own sales literature. I wrote some of the stuff, and nothing frosts me more than when a customer asks a rather basic question and the sales rep says "Where'd you get that from?" or "Let me find out for you" and the answer is right there in front of 'em.

Sadly, most of those that do any sales training are usually researching techniques for manipulating customers, rather than learning their products. If the rep knows the product, has good communication skills, and good business ethics, then situations like MINICooperS wouldn't happen: they would have made the sale, and MINICooperS would be out playing with his new Pat and the rep would have a commission check to show for it.

Stupid salesmen..

Today, we went looking fro used car for my girlfriend, and in a used cars dealer, we saw a 2008 Limited Patriot 4x4 with 150 000 km on it..... 9000$ cdn..

I paid 20000$ for my North Edition 2009 4x4 used, with 30000 km on it with the remaining 4 years of warranty.

No, they didn't contact me, I called them back . . . here's how it went down:

Me: "The vehicle description says 2010 Jeep Patriot 2WD MKTL74 . . .
Him: (sales manager) "That doesn't matter, that's the default heading on the pre-build form and I don't know how to change it, don't worry about it . . .
Me: "Okay, goodbye"

Then minutes later I get an email that shows a new pre-build with reworked figures which are $1700 more than the original and there is no entry for "Preferred Customer Discount". So, I email him and say "Where's my Preferred Customer Discount?" then minutes after that I get another email with vehicle price jacked up and Preferred Customer Discount subtracted (see attachment)

I email back: "You increased the vehicle price and then took off a Preferred Customer Discount, what do you take me for??"

His reply: "If you want the 4X2 then the price and payment are
what you were quoted yesterday at the store.(I handed him the sheet with my parameters shown below) If you want the 4X4 then it cost more money! There are no tricks and I am not trying to "take you" for anything. I sent you both the build sheet and the work sheet for the 4X4 last night so everything is disclosed , nothing hidden so please don't imply that I am trying to pull a fast one."

He still doesn't get it. First he gives me the wrong price then he raises the new price so he can deduct a discount.

Based on your post here, you've got misgivings. If you're not comfortable dealing with them, then don't, even if they sweeten the deal. I wouldn't even waste the time on a call back. If they ask, you can say their approach has you confused (you don't have to accuse them of anything) and consequently you don't want to purchase from their dealership.
Then find a different dealer, and if you can't find another Patriot (I hope you can) then look at another brand altogether. There are dealers who are clear and straightforward -- reward their integrity by purchasing your vehicle from them.

History tells me that the dealers who say "Shop here last" are indeed the last places I will shop!

Agreed.
I told them to take me off their contact list. I'll be looking elsewhere. I'm pretty much sold on the Patriot 4WD if I can get it basic with 5-spd manual transmission, 2.4 engine, 4-wheel disc brakes and aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires. My MINI has a 6-spd manual, 1.8L 163hp supercharged I-4, 4-wheel disc brakes and aluminum wheels and it's a fun ride also, just not very off-road worthy.

I just read through this thread, man I'd be as mad as hell. Vote with your feet. We have a Mini cooper S also, a 2007 in silver with the John Cooper Works side skirts. 1600 supercharged and with a 6 speed box. It's the mark 11 all different body panels but somehow looks almost the same.:D

thats less than I paid for the same vehicle! take it!

James,
Unfortunately this is no longer where we are at pricewise. My previous posts outline the "mistake" the dealer made on the pre-order I was to sign. We're now at $17473 +TTL from a different dealer. How long ago did you get yours? Did it include the Tire and Wheel Group only?

In Jan '09 I got my Patriot Sport with CVT, FD1, 26E package, and Tire and Wheel group for $19,970 + TTL. I also financed with my credit union and the dealer got a small cut from that.

I haven't seen February's sales numbers yet but the January 2010 sales numbers for Patriots were down versus Jan 2009. If February and March were similar to January then the dealer might move a little bit more for you.

Two years ago you could have gotten a new 2008 Sport E + Wheel/tire group for under $15k. I picked up my leftover 2007 $22.7k MSRP Compass Limited 4WD for $15.4k. Today's sales prices suck from a consumer's POV.

I bought my '09 Sport 4x4 8 months ago, paid $25,080. Everything but the MyGig, heated seats and mirrors. FDI/CVT.

The saga continues . . .
Called Chrysler Advantage to clarify the FFP pricing and current incentives applicable to the Patriot. Every dealer I contacted, we're up to 5 now, has a different take on Doc Fees, which vary from $75 to $400. Chrysler gave me a number for the dealer to call so they can explain to him that the Doc Fees and "Program Fees" are already figured into the FFP pricing and no separate charge should be made. This format changed on March 2, 2010 and if the dealers would pay attention and not do things by habit or off the cuff, they would have caught this.
After all this, I may hold a class on Patriot Marketing 101. These clowns drew attention to themselves by their actions and tactics so now I'm going to analyze every move they make! Needless to say I'm not chomping at the bit, when it comes it comes.
Besides the deals are getting better, one dealer was closed on Sunday but had a salesman parked on the curb passing out bottled water and $250 off coupons that could be used during the week on new purchases. Another is offering "free tires" for the life of the vehicle, but won't throw in the tow package instead (which seems like would cost him less).
Stay tuned.

MINICooperS-It's too bad this hasn't been an easier process. It is good to see that you are staying all over them though. My .02 cents on the tires for life would be that it's not a great deal. My dealer gave me the same thing but I didn't factor it in the purchase at all because you had to have your oil changed there every 3k miles and pay for routations every 6k. Plus there is no way I am putting the same Goodyears on my Patriot again.

Keep up the good work. Hopefully it will be all worth it.

Hold on just a minute! Now I get a call from this final dealer (who I gave my credit card number for the $500 order deposit) that they want to charge my card for a $1000 deposit instead. My answer: "Look, I'm not chasing this purchase any longer and I'm not jumping through any more hoops. The deposit is for good faith and you said $500 would do. I'm obviously serious or I wouldn't have given you the card number. So here's the deal, I'll let you charge the $1000 but you've got to sweeten the deal to show you're really serious. I want the trailer tow wiring harness thrown in from your parts department". There response, "We'll get back to you". Again, where do they get these guys! Does the average buyer put up with this crap!
(Actually I know where they got one salesmen. I was asking him some questions about the Patriot and he said "he didn't know the answer, that he was just a messenger, and had been driving a truck last week before he got laid off")
:soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox:

- thanks for letting me vent -

UPDATE:
FINALLY!!!!! Got the call that the unit has been ordered and the existing $500 deposit is enough. We may be there . . .

Just out of curiosity... Why so insistent on having a fresh build rather than buying one that was available on the lot? Dealers are often more willing to give incentives on products sitting on the lot because it clears inventory.

I'm just kind of anal in that respect. I figure if I'm going to spend that kind of money I'm going to get EXACTLY what I want (no power anything, no white paint, no automatic transmissions, no steel wheels). Besides, do you know how tired I got of hearing "nobody buys a manual transmission anymore"?? So, give me something new with less than 9 miles on the odometer and fresh tires and clutch that hasn't been demo-driven. I do alot of camping and the Ford Transit Connect was my first choice and I waited over a year for it to arrive in the US. But you can't get what they offer in Europe for equipment so the Patriot won out as second choice.
