Hi Everyone -
Speezy in Seattle here. Some of you were aware of my issues with my 2008 Patriot. I finally got it replaced under the Washington State Lemon Law.
It has been a long battle (began at 1000 miles; it had 18,000 when I turned it in on Tuesday), but when the day finally came, and all the numbers were finally agreed upon (went back and forth a few times), the paperwork went quick and I am now the owner of a brand new 2009 Patriot.
So , having owned both, let me tell you the most noticeable differences.
1. Dash trim and door trim on the 2009 is MUCH BETTER. Instead of square air vents, they are now circular and better able to direct air where you want it. Entire Dash has been re-designed for the better.
2. 12v adapter is moved up the console so it doesn't interfer with the drink holders. 4WD lock has been moved towards the back of the console
3. Door lock post have been recessed..I like this because when trying to rest my arm on the window sill, the post would always poke my arm, or my shirt sleeves would get snagged.
4. Better radio..or perhaps same radio guts, but better looking, more options on the standard radio
And...maybe it was just my 2008, but the 2009 car feels more solid, it is quieter in the passenger compartment .
So...I hate that I had to go through the Lemon Law thing to get my car issues resolved, but I am VERY HAPPY with the end result. I feel like I now have a better car.
For anyone having problems with their Patriot, I highly advise you to contact Chrysler Customer Care @ 800.992.1997. The dealer really cannot intercede on your behalf with Chrysler, you have to do it.
Kudo's to my dealer though (although I wasn't to thrilled with their service shop in the beginning) the owner was freindly, professional, and wasn't the least bit combative about the car exchange. I will say that he did try to come up with other possible solutions, but I was adamant about going the lemon law route and he respected my decision..after all it wasn't really costing him a dime..Chrysler paid all the costs. For any of you in Seattle...Tom Matson Dodge/Jeep. Tom is a good guy.
I highly advise new car buyers to read and understand their state's lemon laws before they buy a new car. I hope you won't have to use it, but it is nice to know what your options are
