i have a 2009 patriot bought it new and have had problems since the day i bought it! i could go on and on about things that are wrong but i will just do the main two :)
--my sunroof keeps leaking when it rains. the dealer said the the drains get clogged, they cant do anything about it just stop parking under trees? does anyone have this problem or any solutions besides not parking under trees?
--my vents recently started to smell awful(kinda like a mold or old water) for a few min when you turn on the air or heat. dealer "looked" at it and said there are no problems and it did not smell when they turned it on(which is a lie it smells EVERY TIME i turn it on)
is it just my car or do other people have these problems with their patriot?

PS i hope this is the right forum :)

What a way to enter the forum… however, yes the sun roof leak is a known problem... Please feel free to search the forums and you will see what many members have done to help the situation out....

About the AC it may not be draining properly.... You may need to also check your cabin filter which is located behind your glove box

And no offense but you've bought a used vehicle even if it is new to you.... There is no telling what the previous owner did....

We may have some problems with our patriots… But as a whole they are pretty darn good jeep.

So I welcome you to the forum… Feel free to browse this plethora of useful information

I guess I can see that... But 3-4 years depending on when the 09 was purchased to bring up issues?

I guess it just irked me that this is the first post I have seen by this person. Sorry if I came across harsh

There are quite a few threads on here for the sun roof leaks. Many members fixed their leaks where the dealer's couldn't (or wouldn't) by using the leak detection and sunroof leaks threads.

For the AC musty odor, any reputable air conditioning shop can solve that for you pretty quick. The AC condensation drains can clog and this can promote a mold growth on the condenser coils. They sell sprays for cleaning and killing the mold too.

Welcome to the forums! :D

They fixed the problem in the 2010

I had a 2007 that also leaked everytime it rained. I notice in the A posts they added bigger water tubes to drain the water. The 07 had much smaller tubes. Ask about the size of the drain tubes that go down the A posts and see if they can change them out to 2010 and above size. Just a though

BS. Don't see anywhere in their thread where they "hate" their Jeep. They sound frustrated and probably never knew this Forum existed until they did a search. Anyone that pays good money for a vehicle that lets them down is entitled to complain. Bashing someone for listing a legitimate issue just makes you a condescending fanboy.

Welcome!

As other shave said, doing your own mait, on the drain tubes is the best way to prevent the leaks. And as Todd said, you can clean out the A/C system to prevent the smell.

The leaky PAT is a known problem.Either from the sunroof or somewhere back by the rear hatch.I researched the Pat before i bought one so i made sure to check the carpets for wetness and made sure i DIDNT get a sunroof as well. The Pat does use some low quality components which youll find out but me and my Pat are still getting acquainted with one another since ive only had mine for about 4 months.A quick internet or forum search can help you fix your problem. There are numerous threads about the leaky Pat and im sure one of the solutions will fit the bill. :) Dont put the Pat down too hard. What other vehicle is gonna give you 4WD with decent gas mileage at a very affordable price? Well Jeep gave it too us but some compromises probably had to be made on quality to keep the price low.

With all do respect to all the haters here, the guy is obviously frustrated with his Jeep and has finally taken steps to try and rectify the problem by seeking help.

I know this forum is one big Patriot love fest all the time, but from my perspective, it can also get a bit too defensive.

Let's please try and be open and welcoming to new folks.

Buying any car with a sunroof leaves it open to leaks, but a very high % of owners claim leaking problems with the Patriot sunroof (I don't have one). In fact in all seraches online it is the biggest complaint of the Pat i can find, with suspenion/balljoints second. Lots of stuff here on that topic.

IMO a sunroof in a 3 year old car should not leak...period. It worth complaining/venting about.

The smell is also common in the Patriot, one which I have never had in any previous vehicle of mine. Ensure the drainage hose is not clogged (see other thereads on here) and then try and spray to help clean it out.

A tip for everyone on this....turn your AC off (but keep fan on) 5 minutes before you get to your destination, so the system dries itself out a bit before you shut it off. It will help with AC smell.

I love my Pat fella, it is practical, economical and fun to drive, but I too express concern at times about the fit and finish and quality of the vehicle. I bought mine 4 years old, in great condition, modest mileage (50,000 miles) and for 50% of sticker price, so have no qualms about it. It is also a Jeep, so I actually like the infined, raw nature of it. I intend to drive it for 8-10 more years or longer if it is financially smart to do so.

There was a couple of posts that were deleted on this thread of somebody advertising their "i hate patriots" facebook page. if you look at the original date of this thread it is quite old and this person went through and responded to a bunch of really old posts of anybody having any kind of issue.

My response was to the hater + hater was blocked + their threads deleted = I look like a douchebag, Thanks Mods...

Completely agree. This forum is amazing for help and information. Most here are great and I trust their advice wholeheartedly.

I guess somehow this new poster must have missed the pre-req. ettiquette and procedures manual, before he posted his complaints, in what was likely a high frustration mark for him.

Somehow, that justifies him being talked down to?

Perhaps we all need to read that manual.....

For the record, I don't have clue who this poster is and he/she may be a bum....I just take it personally when people are treated like crap for no reason and I just happened to stumble upon this thread today.

I'm getting the same kind of smell in my 2011 patriot, but I've only noticed it when the defrost is on and it's random. Won't smell it for a few days then all of a sudden it's over bearing for a few min. I changed the cabin air filter thinking that was the problem but when that didn't fix it I brought it in to the dealer to have a look and they couldn't find anything Any one have an opinion on how to fix it?
