Mine are 245 75 16 BFG'sKO AT mounted on rubi rims.
I have also installed RR Lift.
30,000K with this set up with no issues

 

Aus, just be aware that new JK Jeeps have 5X5" wheels, and we have 5X4.5" wheels. Someone else made that mistake already. The rims above are off older model Jeeps.

So if I go for:

Those will fit fine, according to the people that have posted pictures of Rubi wheels on the Pat.

I just bought the same spec in the Soft 8's, and the rims fit perfectly. Need tires though.

 

I have been going nuts trying to decide what I want to do. I love the look of the rubicon wheels on the patriot. I do think It would ride better with a tire with a taller sidewall. I have looked at either keeping the 17 inch wheels and going with either 225/65-17 or 225/70-17 or 235/65-17. Then I may get a set of rubicon wheels and get either 235/70-16 or 245/70-16. I don't want to hurt the gas mileage too much so weight is an issue. The patriot though screams for a decent set of AT tires.

 

Glad I'm not the only one... Okay, basically I've already decided to go for the 225/65/17 size Yokohamas, but I nonetheless still find myself going over the same things again and again. On the other hand, wouldn't it be nice to have more sidewall and ground clearance? But then again taller tires could hurt performance... And crawl speed, which is way too damn fast as is. 16" rims might help with the sidewall issue? Can't get them from the dealership, which makes things difficult. And does that 29.5" tire really fit underneath the Patriot without causing problems? ARGH!

So make up your mind already and try something so I can see how it works.

 

My Soft 8's are a lot heavier than my 17's. Be aware of this. The Moabs are also heavier, and will affect milage and wear on the drivetrain.

There are other alternative 16" factory Jeep alloy wheels off Liberties and TJ's which will be lighter than the Moabs.

Although I just saw a Liberty with Moabs and 245/75/16 BGF A/T's, and it was a great look! His was lifted.

 

ttilley, - With the lift - did you have to modify the fender liners at all to prevent rubbing?

 

I have noticed a small decline in mileage however its been a small trade off.
I could not be happier with this set up.
BFGs are the best tire I have owned.

I have almost 80,000K on Riot 30,000+k with set up no issues.

 

I've decided Tony. 16" is the way to go. I just had to wait till the right ones came up on Craigslist (used stuff for sale over here)

 

A lot of the XJ and ZJ guys go for the TJ Moab rims but the Liberty wheels are the way to go on the MK in my opinion. I just like the looks of the Liberty wheels better and they are lighter too. The polished aluminum 5-spokes are my favorite but there are about 5 other types too.

 

What year liberty has wheels that will fit the patriot?

 

I've seen some nice wheels on Libertys. I really like the factory wheels on the Commander but I think they are a different bolt pattern.

At the rear of the front wheel wells, right near the bottom of the body, there's a hump in the plastic wheel well liners. That hump will be the first thing to contact the front corners of the tires when turning.

The plastic hump covers a metal ridge.

Hammer down the ridge flat and melt the plastic hump to make clearance for the 29.5"s.

Or put in 29"s (my plan - 235/70-16)

do you if 225 -17 goes into rubicon wheels?

 

these rubicon wheels are 16". No, a 17" tire will not fit.

newer (from Jeep JK Wrangler) rubicon wheels may be 17", but they are also the wrong bolt pattern to fit the patriot.

 

they are 16", my buddy was going to give me his stock rubi wheels from his 07, but we are pretty sure the bolt pattern doesnt work, i'm gonna double check tmrw. but yea doesnt look promising (they were free )
