Today I forgot to buy bananas and there was no warning light or sound either.
I wouldn't see it so tragic. It's a good idea anyways to open the hood time to time and check the engine compartment and the fluid levels at the same time.
Let's imagine that years ago people had to crank the car engine by hand, then there was no A/C for very many years, then there was no automatic tranny or radio and today some drivers are unhappy about little warning light for windshield washer or tire pressure. What's next, warning sound for the windshield wipers so you can hear a beep when you turn them on?
The warning is when you have mud on your windshild and theres no fluid to clean it. It alerts you to go buy some more. I had this problem in the middle of nowhere.
It's usually a good idea to check fluid levels every time you stop for fuel - something I learned many vehicles ago. My first car had 4/60 air. Four windows open at 60 MPH. Seriously, the windshield washer and other fluids are easily checked, and are easy to get to. I still carry a tire pressure gauge. Manual - not digital.
Re: EVIC and washer fluid. All I can tell you is that the system is supposed to present a "low washer fluid" message on the screen, regardless of what you were displaying, and chime once. That is according to the owners manual. I have not had the fluid get low so cannot verify this.
Its a good feature but I hated on my XJ Cherokee...the thing was bright yellow and would stay on all the time...like your oil pressure had dropped or something....I think it was nice it told me the fluid was low but I didn't need to be constantly reminded...My Dodge will come one when you start and then go out after a minute or so....
By the time I was done with my XJ about half of the warning lights were covered by black electrical tape. They were bad sensors or I knew what the problem was and had it covered. Simpler time.
I've been told many times I am a nut behind the wheel but I always thought about painting whatever rig I was driving at the time a bright color so everyone could see me coming.
Hmm my 84' VW Rabbit's "Need New Engine" light must of malfunctioned along with many other things. Oh I was going to do the electrical tape over warning lights. I had on the same car as above "battery light" go on. Everytime that stupid light would show (or if my headlights would slowly start to dim) I knew the alternator was going down.
My Patriot is scheduled to ship 7/10. Since washer fluid is only about 99 cents American I will run it dry and post the results as soon as it gets here.
You'd think there would be one. Every car I've owned has had a light saying it was out. One car hmmm think it was the one I just sold had a light and wouldn't turn off until it got filled. I do use use a lot of washer fluid, especially behind log, dump, chip, etc trucks after it's rained and mud splashes on the windows.
There is one...according to the manual. This is the point of this thread.
The EVIC should display a low fluid level message, but no one here has seen or noticed it. I've run out and never noticed a warning...and I have the EVIC.
EVIC is the car information system integrated into the interment cluster that shows allot of info for the pat. It is availale with the driver convenience group on limiteds and the popular equipment group on sports.
