Lift Kit - Clearance vs Tire Size

This may be a noob question but I want to confirm if the math is fine, I am thinking about installing a lift kit to my trail rated patriot, my main objective is to have better ground clearance however as something nice to have I would like to install better tires; based on reading several threads 225/75/R16 seemed to be the largest tires I could safely install with a lift without rubbing at any position, my stock tires are 215/65/R17. Would the fact that I am moving from R17 to R16 mean that I would be loosing some clearance (I guess 1/2 inch)?

I believe you would gain 1 inch in height if you were to just get larger tires (225/75/16). A word of advice, research more about both lift kits, pros and cons, and issues ie. Stress on parts like your CV joints and warranty. If you go RRO you'll need Moog adjustable toe links K100117 and I strongly suggest getting Moog rear upper control arms as the RRO arm bushings are hit and miss, but most people have noticed wear after only 3 months. You can ask RRO to get the lift without the arms for a cheaper price. Feel free to PM me.

Thanks man my math was completely wrong then, the R16 tires in this case are actually bigger than the R17 due to their higher sidewall height, I was missing that piece of information... I found this to be a very good site to compare wheels and have a visual idea of how much a tire compares to another...

Has anyone has experience with 225-75-R16 in a Patriot that is not lifted? Any rubbing at all?

That size should be fine and with certain brands, possibly slight rubbing on full lock but nothing crazy.
