Quick question guys...

The Jeep dealer is saying in order to keep the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty valid, that the Patriot needs to be inspected ever 30k miles... for $800.

Anyone else hearing this? I remember, at signing, that they said it needed to be inspected every 30k miles, but I don't remember hearing them say that it would cost 800 bucks each time...

Answers?

thanks

I think your dealer 'misspoke'......maybe the 30K service on your vehicle is $800 and the inspection is included, which IS "free".

still, $800 seems high even for a 30K service. I would call them and ask them to break down what is included in that $800. :smiley_thumbs_up:

At $800 every 30,000 miles, who needs a lifetime warranty? That's enough to replace your entire powertrain every 150K or so, and any competently designed powertrain ought to last longer than that.

Either the dealer didn't know what he was saying or he's trying to get you to take it without lube.

Hold up...did the dealer tell YOU directly, or did your EX tell you that it was "$800" ? :icon_rolleyes: :p

$800 for a 30k service is a great deal considering at my dealership for a 4x4 patriot it would cost around $1100. what you guys dont understand is that includes flushing all fluids, cleaning out intake and fuel system, spark plugs and filters. sure, you could go to any ...lube store and pay $200 for there 30k package or you can do it right!

Spark plugs and filters? Plugs are less than $3 a piece. Filters? What filters? Air filter is less than $15. Oil filter, depending on what brand, anywhere from $5-15. Even expensive synthetic is less than $8 a quart.
Do all this yourself.
$1100? Even more BS.

30,000 Miles (50,000 km) or
30 Months Maintenance
Service Schedule
❏ Change the engine oil and engine oil
filter.
❏ Rotate tires.
❏ Replace the engine air cleaner filter.
❏ Replace the spark plugs (except 2.4L
PZEV).
❏ Adjust the parking brake on vehicles
equipped with four-wheel disc brakes

Adjusting that parking brake must be worth about $850.... My dealer says about $150, WITH the parking brake.

Oil and filter, no more than $50 total. More like $30, depending on what you use.

Rotate tires, $16-30 if you pay somebody to do it.

Spark Plugs, no more than $12

Adjust parking brake, don't know...
In any case, much less than $850. Actually less than $150.

I'd look into getting the inspection done at the dealer and the maintenance service done elsewhere. Oil changes and system flushes are very basic procedures that can be done just as well at a Pepboys, Firestone, or Oil change shops for a lot less. Just keep your receipts for proof of service. Most of the issues I've had with poor repairs have actually been done at dealers. The only work I'll ever take to a dealer is warranty work.
I had a dealer this past summer that wanted to charge me $400 to change the 16 spark plugs in my Durango. Parts cost were $9.50 each for a $1.69 standard champion plug. This was something that was listed as recommended at a warranty expiration inspection. It was a difficult choice but I just did them myself for less then $30.

For $800 they better be changing the CVT, PTU and RDU fluids as well. Maybe even the anti-freeze flush and refill.

Flushing!!!!! Flushing what!!!.... Big stuff like that doesnt need doing untill 60.000--120.000 miles & the fuel filter is built into the tank so they wont be touching that.

I know I complain about the USA changing its oil too ofen ....But over here we flush & change the Brake fluid at about 18.000 miles. Brake fluid is Hydroscopic & can get contaminated by water. Might be an Idea if you Off -Road guys adopted this strange British practice???

Nothing strange or British about it. I change out the brake fluid on my cars every two years or so...give or take a few months.

$80 for an oil change? Are you crazy? I can get 5 quarts of Mobil 1 for $26 and a Mobil 1 filter for $12 and do it myself in 20 minutes. Spend another $10 for EP and still save money.
Plugs no more than $3 a piece and 15 minutes to put them in.

Dealer will do CV joint inspection for free anyway.

When I was younger, and had more time, I did ALL my own work. Including changing the clutch every 3 months on my Chevelle SS, greasing the hubs every month on my F150, adjusting the valves every Saturday afternoon on my Camaro. I don't have the time, or the inclination, to work on this Jeep. I painted the muffler black....I wax it. If I have time to work on something I work on my motorcycle. BTW, what do you do with your used oil?

That's great Crippler! I hear you! Had to help a chauffeur change his tire on an escorted teen date back in the day. He didn't know if he had a spare or a jack, nor how to use it. How does an unlicensed teen come to know more about driver essential know-how like that?

So did you get the highway robbery situation sorted out? They must not have much competition nearby to inflate prices so high. Or was there out-of-warranty work to be done too (please forgive me if this was already discussed)?

Well, It is 2011. The first Patriots, 07 model year were set out on dealer lots almost 5 years ago. 07 owners better check the date to have that 5 year inspection!!
