LED Lights on Jeep Patriot

I just installed new rear lenses and the only led light is the brake light and tailight, it has a built-in circuit board. Also put led turn signal lens with led circuit on the front of Patriot. My question is, if I switch to led bulbs for the backup-light they should be brighter than the standard bulb correct? So far I have not had to change the flasher. Anyone I have any info?

There is no longer a flasher to change. Everything is part of the TIPM (totally integrated power module).

Those built up LED modules don't always need a resistor but some do.
If you aren't having any problems then it must be built-in (or it is not causing trouble yet).

No problem with the flasher, was wondering if I change to led bulbs for tailight and back-up lights will they then affect the flasher? Right now just the brakelights and tailights are leds with new lenses. I just found out after I installed rear turn signal bulbs to led, that the turn signal now flashes way faster, so I need to get an inline resistor at Kragen Auto Parts for $10.00 a pair. The LED lights are way brighter than the standard bulbs. Thanks for the info Joe, much appreciated.

what exactly?

Hi,
Did you get the whole tail light assembly? I have seen them on eBay and was thinking of getting them and then smoking them because they would be brighter than stock. I have an all black Patriot and think smoking all the lenses would look really good. (not the headlights!)

So are you saying only the brake light was LED?

What did you get? From where? How much? Pictures?

Thanks!

Is this what you are looking for?
I smoked the taillights a very little bit to match the black of the Pat more.

I got the whole tailight assembly, the brake light-tailight are led with a circuit. I also got the front turn signal assembly. These do no need anything added to them as the blinker rate stays normal. Now I also added led bulbs for turn signals in the rear and now the flash rate is alot faster because of the addition of the led turn signal bulbs. I went to Kragen auto supply and they have a kit that comes with the connectors and everything to slow the blinker rate back to normal. The kit is $10.00, they also had the turn signal led bulbs for $17.99 for a pair. I purchased the front and rear led housing on E-Bay from revotec, free shipping and they were the least expensive out of all the other sellers. Even though they are expensive. Good luck. Sorry no pictures, must borrow Digital Camera from Girlfriend, as I seem to spend all my money on Jeep Patriot.

thanks

Ok, I'll have to check it out on eBay and see what I come up with. Thanks for all the info! Have a Merry Christmas!

No, I didn't. I would love to, but can't find the correct bulbs in the Netherlands.

smoke

Jorlis (sp?)
Sort of, I want to smoke even darker to make it look all black back there. I figure if the LED's are brighter then I should pass any test about distance etc. for visibility. I would keep my original lights to 'pop' back in if I get a ticket to show the smoke is off, the switch them back! I got pulled over years ago for my Tbird Turbo Coupe having tint on the front windows, pulled it off and when I went in for the inspection they didn't even go out and look at them!

Thanks for the photo's.

Tail

I like the look of those lights, are they tail only or brake/tail ???:icon_rolleyes:

Yes they are only tailight/ brakelight, but I added turn signal led bulbs to the rear. I also changed the front turn signal lens too, they have a built-in circuit for the leds. Thats how the fronts came, did not have to put in an led bulb.

as long as they are brake light LED, there were a few sets out there that were tail light only and your brake light was an incandecent bulb. defeats the purpose of LED. This is on my to get list...as well as the front LED setup.

Earthworm, I assume that as you have an '07 Patriot that you have a seperate rear turn signal from the brake lights right?

The '08+ Patriots have a multi function brake light/turn signal that is red, and that would probably need a resistor to flash at the normal speed

The rear has led brake and tailight built-in. When I changed the turn signal bulbs in the rear to led, the turn signal started flashing faster. I also changed the front to led that is built-in to the housing. The fronts came with a self-stick box for each side too. Anyway I bought a kit from Kragen Auto that splices into the rear to correct the flasher speed, it was about $10.00.

IF one LED Housing gets broken I'll buy another set or put the old ones back in. No big deal, its only paper. Everyone interested in changing to LEDs, you might want to think twice as they are not cheap. Heckler has a good point if one gets broken..

Do the US spec Pats have the option of having a turn signal indicator in the first clear area from the top in the rear tail lights? It looks to me like there is nothing in mine.

Domestic '07s had the amber turn signal bulb...

every domestic since then (08's thru now) does not have amber turn signal...

and to this point no one has attempted to add an amber because it involves rewiring the vehicle.
