I went in so many times for sunroof and rear dome leaks that my dealership flew out a technician from the plant and he was able to get it fixed. Here's the thread - page five details the fix.

http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6677

We've had some good rain here since Aug 2008, and it seems to be fixed for good.

If I didn't love my Patriot so much, I probably would have lemoned it. I decided to hang in there and see this through, and I'm glad that I did. I just don't think that I would be as happy in something else.

Thank you !

I have had a lot of water pour through the front map lights before. Only once, and never again. My Jeep was parked on a down ward grade, with the front facing down it while it rained heavy ALL day. I don't park like that anymore (My spot was right where the street drain was located) and I've never had a leak since.
Shoot, that sucks...brand new Jeep and we can't park on an incline...
Should'a stuck with Ford.

I've had a few light drops fly at me from the sunroof while in a autowash. It was so minor, that now, I just make sure the top shade is closed... no more drops on the head! It has never been enough to have been a problem. I have had a lot of water pour through the front map lights before. Only once, and never again. My Jeep was parked on a down ward grade, with the front facing down it while it rained heavy ALL day. I would insist on a new headliner and not take no for an answer. Besides staining, getting the headliner soaked with water (even after it dries up) will undoubtedly reduce it's life expectancy before it starts coming unglued, which all of them do eventually.

Hi TTT -I have had 6 water leaks in my Patriot (through the sunroof, front and rear dome lights, door latch). Actually, I shouldn't be using the work "leak"... "Flood" would be a better term. After a number of part replacements not working out, they ended up having to re-weld the entire roof. (I know, "what?!")
I've also had a number of electrical probs since I bought the car: radio never works properly (even after its been replaced), TPM light that would never turn off, fog lights that never worked... And now a prob with my key fob that has a mind of its own.

Do you have lemon laws where your at? The dealer should have given you a new car after all that.

#12 ·
Unfortunately no lemon laws here. (Boooo!)
CAMVAP is probably my best bet.
It's been a year of leaks and electrical probs. One would think that common sense would have prevailed somewhere along the line, and that the vehicle would have been replaced by now...

yeah I sorry about all the problems you've had. I have been lucky two years, no leaks no and electric problems yet...

Sunroof leaks

Hello, I decided to join this forum after numerous attempts to fix my leaky sunroof. I want to know if the sunroof is SUPPOSED to leak due to how Jeep's sunroof design is. I've had my car in 4 times for sunroof repair.

The first time they told me I had a bad weatherstripping and replaced that. Second and third times they told me the sunroof was out of alignment and said they fixed it. The fourth time they told me the sunroof is supposed to leak due to how Jeep's design of the drain tubes are. - That water should come into the inside of the car and then drain out and that I 'may' get dripped on in the process. Especially if I go through a car wash.

I've owned numerous cars w/sunroofs and was never dripped on - have you all been told the same thing??

Now in for the 7th water leak...

Even after the dealership replaced my sunroof, roof rails, drain tubes, rear-door latch plugs, interior roof piece, and re-welded the roof, I'm still having leaks. The water is now coming through the sides of the vehicle.

Had the EXACT same thing happen to me. Unfortunately, not till after the warranty expired (37,000 miles) as it doesn't rain very often in southern Cali.

I took it in, and they said that the sunroof seal was bad in that it was allowing too much water to get through (the seals don't completely prevent all water from entering), and that the water couldn't drain through the drain plugs fast enough (their solution to the fact that the seals aren't 100%), and that some got into the vehicle. They replaced the seal: total cost troubleshooting included was $394. It hasn't leaked since, but there has not been any major rains since either. I have washed it and didn't see anything, but need to REALLY try before too long.

As demolaysgirl said, the Chrysler "Leak Technician" had to be flown in for my repair as well. The pinched drain tube was a byproduct of a number of other problems. I forget exactly what the issue was, but I'm going on 9 months since my last leak after 4 failed repair attempts.

#19 ·
Well...if they've flown leak technicians out, you would think that they would come up with a permanent fix.

I've been in multiple times under warranty. It seems to be fixed for good, but then again we don't get a lot of hard rain here. If it happens again, as long as it is under warranty I'll take it in for repairs. After the warranty expires is when I'll lemon law it.

Just got a call from the dealership that has my Patriot for the 7th water leak -they've had to replace the roof rails for a second time...

The horn in the engine compartment needed to be replaced as well, as it stopped working... (That's in addition to the fog lights, radio, wheel control module, and windshield fluid dispenser all needing to be replaced since I bought the vehicle.)
:(

Unbelievable... Water Leak #8

I picked up my car at the dealership last night for the 7th water leak repair. As I had been told every other time, I was again told the leak had been fixed. On my way home from the dealership, there was so much water coming out of the front overhead dome light that the water blew the light fixture right out of the socket! (There was water coming out of the sunroof again as well, as now there is also water coming out of the driver side wall/pillar.)
Dropped the vehicle back off at the dealership this morning...

Any ideas what could be causing this???

Do you have the option of trying another dealership?

Should get all members to take a Poll a to this water leaking issue, & see what is the % on leaky Patriots. I assume it's not just Sunroof versions, i have seen other posts that even no sunroofs are experiencing the same problems. After the poll, maybe the forum can take a lead role in dealing with Jeep on a National Basis?

Make them remove the headliner and run water over the outside of the Pat. With the headliner out, they should have every opportunity to see every spot that the water is coming in.

It should also give them the opportunity to ensure that any water in the drainage system is gone before they put the headliner back in.

If possible, try to be onhand with a camera for the next repair attempt.

You definitely want to extensively document all attempts and save all of your paperwork. This is something that should be resolved under warranty. You mentioned that there is no lemon law where you are? Document, document, document! You may have a case for a lawsuit if it is not resolved.

wonder if these dealerships get paid by chrysler on labor eventhough they don't fix the problem because it's under warranty. i'm no rocket scientist, but you'd think they'd come up with a fix after three versions of the pat.

i noticed a bit of water residue under the middle dome light on my jeep...but nothing to be worried about for now i guess. cross fingers.

leaking sunroof

I've had issues with a leaking sunroof as well. Today will be my 5th time taking it in. The first initial leak was through the from dome light and each leak after has been through the front left corner and all along the back of the sunroof. Now I'm being told it is normal for the sunroof to leak due to how the drainage system is in the Patriot. I will let you know what they tell me today.

Yeah I had my Patriot in a couple months ago for water pooling in the front dome light. The 'stealership' said their guy was one of the best at figuring out water leaks. They said he re-sealed the sun roof and it was fixed Well sure enough I have another leak. The problem is I park inside my garage everynight and my Pat doesn't see alot of rain while it is parked. So it takes a long time to see if the leak is fixed. I'll be taking it in tomorrow and telling them to fix it.

For my 8 different water leaks, Chrysler performed repairs to the left and right quarter panel and upper seams, a repair to the upper deck, sealed the roof rack twice, sealed all gromlettes, sealed the lights in the roof, resealed the sunroof channels on both sides, replaced the sunroof seal twice, repaired a leaking plug beside the rear door latch, replaced the sunroof frame and the sunroof glass, several plugs were replaced and/or resealed, the drain tubes were replaced and re-routed, drip moldings were replaced twice, the headliner was replaced, the insulation pad was replaced, the vehicle was RE-WELDED (as leaking through seams of vehicle)... And the vehicle STILL LEAKS!

That one's fun for the whole family, eh?

Honey Wolf. after every time you took your pat in to get the leak repaired did you test it yourself or did it rain and you saw the leak again. I'm taking mine in tomorrow and I'm wondering if I should spray it down with water after or what the easiest way to tell if its leaking still. We won't be seeing much rain here in BC for a while and i want to figure out if they fix it or not.

JeepHankins,

My Patriot would leak in both rain and car washes, (both hand wash and drive-thru).
Most of the time when the dealership would call me to pick up my car, they would tell me they fixed the leak, yet they would never drive/test the vehicle in wet conditions... So I would leave, and either drive in the rain or wash my car and it would leak...
The dealership told me that you are not supposed to wash your car in a carwash, to avoid leaks. How ridiculous. That didn't explain all the leaks in the rain though!
I can't tell you whether or not to test your car with water before bringing it in, but I definitely suggest you document all of your vehicle problems and get a copy of all invoices, in case you end up going down the path I did with my vehicle.

Good luck with your Patriot. I definitely feel for you...

Leaky Roof

I had to take my 07 limited to the dealership 4 times before they actually fixed the leak. Every time i took it they told me it was fixed, but it wasn't. The true culprit ended up being a crimped drain tube on the sun roof.
