Link, check back through this site. You'll find plenty of material on this that you can download and print out. When you go to your dealership, they might be great, like mine were, and do their level best, or they might be total assh*les who don't want to know, as some folks have experienced. Either way, take the time to go prepared.
I'd suggest that you don't start off by being threatening; be disappointed and give them every chance to sort it. Take the stance that you think its Chrysler's problem from the outset, get the dealership on your side.
Keep everyone on this site posted as to how you're getting on. Lots of people have been in your position and have got a result.

PS: Are you Boston US or Boston UK; you don't say?

Link, I have the same problem. Had mine in twice. Does it happen all the time, for example does it happen when the jeep is parked, when you are moving, or just anytime? I only have a problem if a park the Jeep with the front end higher than the back. It's crazy. As the others said, go to the search function on this site and search for leak survey. There is a TSB Chrysler issued about this problem. (my dealer denied having knowledge of it), I would suggest you print it out and take it with you. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

greetings!.. i have a jeep pat '09 i live here @ northern british columbia, canada, and i have the same case and not only it leaks at the rear dome light but also in front and middle cabin light. i was at the Chrysler dealer here two weeks ago they checked the problem and said something about blockage at the roof. my middle light were busted and my flashlight don't charge anymore. i am going back there this monday feb 28,2011 and it's a whole day appointment 'coz they have to strip the roof and replace it with a new one. it's good thing 'coz you can see the water mark insideand starting to rot. i'll keep you guys posted after.

Hey Link,

Do you have satellite radio and hence an antenna located at the back center of the roof? I had the exact same thing happen to me while washing my car. I noticed water drops dripping from the rear dome light onto my tonneau cover. My procedure and resolution is listed at this link:

rear dome light leak is caused by bad welds in the rear door and a bad gasket in the window washer fluid line where it leaves the body and goes into the door. Perform a search on this site and you'll find loads of leak info and where and how to fix it. There is even a howto for fixing it yourself complete with a photo walk through.

If these don't fix it for you look at your roof rack. If the rack flexes the gaskets around the screws begin leaking and those need to be sealed.

All of this is covered by jeep provided you are in the 3 year 36,000miles catagory.

If there's water in the rear dome light it most likely comes from the hole where the window washer hose enters the roof. I had this problem, my dealer spread a bead of silicone sealant around the base of the washer hose gasket where it meets the roof and around the washer hose where it goes into the gasket. Problem solved!

Be careful not to push around the window washer hose when you wash that part of the Jeep; you'll break the sealant loose and have to caulk it again. Leakage wouldn't be a problem if the hose exited the body on a vertical surface rather than a horizontal one.

Link,

If you do have a satellite antenna the cleanest way to rule it out would be 4 pieces of black electrical tape around the cap where it meets the roof. Make sure the area is clean before sealing it up and wait for the leak to re-occur. If it doesn't problem solved and you can remove the tape and put some black silicon around it, otherwise its probably coming from the upper rear door trough with the wiper hose/gasket or the center black cap thingy being the culprit.

I have an '11, and I very purposefully avoided the sunroof after having done some research here. I have never had one, and don't "need" it, so I don't feel that I'm missing anything. And it's one less thing I have to worry about going south.

I recently ordered an '11, and I too deliberately chose not to get the sunroof after reading about past problems on the forum. I generally like to be able to look up and see outside, but not worth the risk of a future leak.

I agree that sunroofs are a nice amenity, but I have never had one, and just wasn't willing to tempt fate, especially given the added cost of that package, which I really didn't want.

It's condensation !

Hi everyone,

I have had this, and I think the problem is condensation.

We get this issue every winter, and it was flooding the middle light and the alarm would go off in the night.

I removed the light for a week and found that frost / cold forms on the outside of the skin of the roof metal, and warm damp air from having the heaters on causes the condensation to form on the inside if the roof metal.

The condensation then drips on the roof liner and runs into the lights.

I kept the lights out until we had a dry day and warmed the roof right through (and used a de-humidifier) . I fitted some insulation material to the roof panel above the lights so condensation did not form there and drip into lights again, and refitted the lights

The problem seems to be solved

hope this helps
