I came across some Kicker 6x9 3-way speakers at Walmart for $60. While I realize they probably aren't the best speakers, I figured I might try them out for the price. let's face it, I think any change in our door speakers is almost always going to be for the better. especially from a 6.5" to a 6"x9" these speakers are the DS693 model has anyone else tried the things out?

$60 for 4 or $60 for 2? If it $60 for 2 I would look around the internet for some RF's( 1693 for front and 1694 for rear ). They can be had for less than that and will be better.

I like kicker products, but who knows it might be their cheapest line of product. I've liked their stuff over their years however.

Yes, i had them in my 03 dodge ram quad cab. I can't remember if i had 6x9 though. i think i did. If you don't blast them, they should be okay. I did have 2 of them blow on me. I had two subs in my truck and always liked having loud music. If you wanna just increase your sound quality a little, sure why not. I wouldn't blast it with them. But just my opinion.

distorted signal is what blows speakers. those are kicker's bottom of the barrel, but still an upgrade for sure. can definitely handle more power than the factory installed speakers, but if you play a distorted signal through any speaker you can damage it

What he said.

I went through crutchfield and got 4 of the Kenwood 6X9's, which came with the adaptor for free. I have 98.99 in 4 speakers and adapters. They sound awesome man. Took me 20 minutes to install all 4 of them.

I have a set of the stock Boston Acoustics from the Premium Sound package if anyone is interested. basically a couple bucks + shipping and they are yours. Would be an upgrade over the base speakers at least and plug in with no adapters needed.

Thanks for the input gentlemen! Sounds like i can throw a few more bucks towards a purchase and get much more for my money. I will hold off on this product and keep my options open :)

If you want it loud you can't really just plug in more speaker.
Like if you regularly haul two tons, you don't buyt a two ton truck you buy a three or five ton truck. Cause you will break the two ton truck using at max all the time.

Same, same idea...you shouldn't be looking to turn it to 10 to get your sound, you have to amp it and speaker it correctly so you get the volume you need/want at 7 or better at 5.

An aside: I run all my mp3 files through a program called MP3 Gain, it removes clipping and levels the entire USB out so your volume can be set once and it isn't killing the speakers every second song.

To be honest 480, this is what I would do. I mean you get what you pay for. I've learned that the hard way a couple times.

Order the rockfords from amazon ! I like them! They just distort a little on loud, heavy bass
