Hey guys n' gals got a serious question
currently own a 09 sport, about 15500 miles 4x4 pretty plain jane and owe little under 15 on it i found a 2010 sport fdII with like 20 miles on it for 20 i figured offer like 18 and try it? should i keep old jeep or go for the FDII

i ask because i would really like the 4 low option and two hooks because i dont wanna cut in old jeep please keep it related its a big financial decision for me lol

or will just keeping it in 1rst in manual mode be enough?

The one regret I had with my Patriot is buying one without FDII. That said, among the list of regrets I have in my life, it ranks pretty low.

Do you need FDII? Are you regularly in situations that need it, or is FDI enough for your needs? Is it worth assuming another $3000-5000 in debt? These, my friend, are answers only you can provide.

thats what i figured...

it would only raise my currently monthly payment y about 50 a month, mostly i didnt want to put all the effort to install a two hook up front and a hitch in the rear, and still not have a 4X4-LOW mode for those who have been in the mud and trails is 1rst gear enough? if so i will just keep the patriot. i was just thinking only 50 more a month for 15k less miles and all the goodies....

If you need the FDII, then go for it. Or wait for a deal on an 11 model, seems some improvements were made for 11. You would probably get better financing on an 11 model too. But you might need to order to get the FDII in an 11.

1st gear in a FDI with a manual trans is close to the low gear in a FDII. I think, if I remember correctly, 1st in FDI is almost 16-1, and low in FDII is 19-1.

Close Dixie, but it's 14:1 for FDI. 15:1 for the manual 5-speed. jlofferman, I'd invest the money in front tow hooks, skid plates and a rear tow hitch and enjoy what you have. Heck, for the savings, you could even get Stu's coils. You'll still be able to go just about anywhere a FDII would go.

Awesome thanks for all the input guys really helped me out i decided im going to keep it, once im back in cali gonna get some 215/70/r16 general grabber at2 and thinking about roof-basket with cross bar i can get it for about little under 200 if i order the rage rack and the 54$ shipped cross bars i just dont want them to rub, anyone have good input on economically priced cross bar that wont rub?

again thanks for all the input:notworthy:

My point is (assumption) you are 2 years into your current loan, so you'll be ending the payments in 3 years vs. starting over on a new loan.

EPA ratings are 10% more fuel consumption than the CVT FDI. Whatever you spend on fuel per month now, add 10%. Probably not much in the grand scheme of costs, but $60 plus $20 or $30 means upgrade cost is $80/mo or whatever your math works out to be.

I kind of wish I got a FDII also like they said you can do pretty much anything the FDII can I have gone down ATV trails with my Patriot!! I get firewood every year on logging roads with it and people look at me like you actually made it with that jeep and a trailer all the time lol I just wish it was little taller

I'm happy with my FDI. It goes through snow like a snowmobile. If I was going to climb hills and go into the rocks, Id be looking for an FDII. If I regularly pulled my bass boat up a steep ramp, FDII. The FDI is fine, as long as you keep in mind it's limitations. The FDII has some serious off-road oriented programming and features that cannot be duplicated through bolt ons. At least, nobody has so far....

hmm all very good points, i think for now im going to keep the sport and just add rear hitch and some general grabber at2 for now i'll find a straight axel forerunner for my more serious adventure. thanks for all the great imput guys it's been itching my gut gut for a good while... esp for only like 4k more haha

well priced out the 215/70/r16 grabber at2 at $376
and hitch between $112-150 so im gonna go with that.

let me know if anyone selling roof basket or cross bars still looking at the 54$ shipping included ebay ones just don't like how close they are to roof for rubbing....

I'm glad you're keeping it. I have a friend who is TRAPPED in the "It's only a few years longer at a few more bucks per month" mode. He currently is paying a king's ransom for 7 years and he just called me about possibly trading that one year old car for a model that has an option that his didn't have. Before you know it, he will be so far underwater he will NEVER get to the surface again. I've tried to warn him, but he just cannot seem to be able to help himself.

FDII is nice, but FDI also has very nice features like autostick and better mileage. Stick with what you have and do the suggested mods. You'll thank me in the morning!;)
