Are you using the "drop-in"? Or did you remove the airbox?
I'm coming up on 13K miles, or 16 months, and I'm thinking of replacing the OEM air filter with a K&N.
What is the verdit, which K&N do you guys and gals recommend?

I have one, it makes the engine run smoother, but no change in fuel mileage or power. First K&N installed that made no noticeable difference.

I got the drop-in this morning. Kept the old OEM filter, it wasn't too bad considering it has 12K+ miles on it and is almost 17 months old. I figured it will be handy to have it around on "cleaning" days while the K&N dries.
So for general street and highway driving, how long between cleanings do you figure on? I see the instructions say 50K miles, but that doesn't seem practical.
Even if I don't off-road other than the occasional park road here on SoFLA, it would seem reasonable to do it every 15K or so.

Drop in... almost zero change.

Although when I pulled it out to clean it last week it was filthy. Makes me assume that it's doing it's job well! I plan to clean it every 3rd oil change or so.

Just a small warning for those with K&N filters. You may want to do a throttle body cleaning more often when using those filters. I ran one for 90k miles on my Wrangler (cleaned the filter every 25/30K), and my throttle body would get dirty much faster than with a paper filter. In fact, some of my sensors were getting covered by a coating of the K&N oil/dirt and had to be cleaned to improve idleing/operation.

Keep an eye on your TB, or you will have strange sensor issues or poor idleing/stalling issues after 40k miles or so.

In my case, it may just be that the Wrangler was pulling in much more air because it was a gas guzzler. I'm guessing the Patriot won't need as much air since it uses less gas.

Put the drop in one in just after x-mas holidays. Picked it up in florida. No noticable improvments but it will save me some coin. Standard filter here ran me almost 18 bucks. Payed just under 40 for the k&n. SO by my next iol changed I'll have broke even already.

Hey another thought on the whole filter thing

Now that gas is essentially double what it was 16 months ago, do any of you guys think it would be wise to change the filter at 6k miles instead of 12? I mean it's only what around $14? Surely that might help performance. I guess we are talking about K & N's here so instead of replace @ 6k miles how about recharge?

there are many reports of this all over the web. most of it stems from over oiling the filter and not waiting enough time for the oil to soke in properly.

Wife still hasn't let me drive the Pat since putting in the drop-in earlier in the week. Maybe tomorrow?
I just installed one in my Escape this morning, defintiely has boosted the HP to where it is noticeable when going through the gearbox.
Throttle-bodies get dirty anyway, my Grands in the dirt needed regular big cleanings even with a paper disposable filter. All three were dirt mongers!!!

i installed the drop in. no noticable difference, but I like that it's a lifetime product and won't end up in the landfill.

although unfortunately, my stock ones ended up in the landfill, and now I realize I should have kept them (for the Vibe too) for filter cleaning days. crap.

I just put a Mopar Performance drop in filter the other day. I'll have to wait and see if it makes any noticeable difference in MPG or HP.

It looks just like a K&N, only blue. Here's a pic.

The blue of the Mopar filter is probably just the color of the oil. I have an Air Force One intake/filter on my truck and it came with blue oil. Now it's red because the K&N filter cleaner/oil is cheaper/more readily available and I already have a bunch because I have 4 oil gauze filters in my household currently.

Yes, it is just the oil that they use.

This is going to be a stupid question especial since I installed a K&N Filter day 1 of owning my pat.

I found it to be a tight squeeze and a pain installing it, I think it was more of first install jitters and not understanding the layout. Can someone give me the step by step on the best way to change the filter, cleaning day is coming up and I want it to go smooth.

Thank you.
