It's not been a good week for Jeep. Exploding Grand Cherokees and Liberty, leaking transmission in Wranglers and faulty air bags and seat belts in the Patriots and Compass. I hope the Cherokee and Liberty owners sue Chrysler into bankruptcy. Should have got two Hondas.

I seem to remember a Honda recall about the Fit ESC's system allowing for too much fun, the RDX, CRV and Odysey being able to be shifted out of park without hitting the brake, I think the same vehicles had airbag issues this year as well, something else about the brakes having a mind of their own....

Everyone has problems. The Grand Cherokee / Liberty thing.... As I understand it the vehicles met the safety standards of 1993, now the NHTSA is saying maybe their standards weren't good enough and they want Chrysler to pay the price on upgrading to a higher safety standard 20 years later. I don't believe that's right to do to any manufacturer (Pinto?) and I question the motives of the recall request.

So what if the gas tank is behind the rear axle? That's where my ass was when I test drove a Smart ForTwo and that is allowed on the road.

The gas tank recall is bunk.. I read one article that showed that all the incidents that the NHTSA is using were extreme high impact or involved 18 wheelers, and the location of the gas tank wouldn't have mattered one bit.

The other recalls are probably valid, and if you notice they are not arguing against them.

Every company has had recalls, Honda, hyundai, toyota are not immune.

I think it would be a helluva lot more important to fix the "computer glitch" that causes the brakes to lock up if the wheel speed sensor goes bad! Then I wouldn't need the frickin' airbags! :soapbox:

June 2013
Dealer Service Instructions for:
Safety Recall N01
/ NHTSA 13V-233
Reprogram Occupant Restraint Control Module
2010-2012 (MK) Jeep® Patriot and Compass
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with supplemental side curtain airbags (sales code CJ4).
The Occupant Restraint Control Module (ORC) on about 254,300 of the above vehicles may have a software error. This could result in non-deployment of the seatbelt pretensioner and/or side airbag curtains during certain low speed roll-over events and increase the risk of serious injury to vehicle occupants.
The ORC must be reprogrammed with new software.

Although recalls are inconvenient and give the perception that we drive crap, we should be thankful we get recalls...there was a day where recalls were not near as standard a practrice as they are now. I am happy to see car companies standing behind their product.....

In the case of Toyota (accelerator issues), I don't think they would want to stand in front of it.....
