Hey Guys,

I thought I would give a bit of detail to anyone who is interested in installing Mygig/touchscreen in their Jeep Patriot. Just to give a bit of background, I have a 2012 Jeep Patriot Limited. I have zero experience with car electronics/ never installed a radio before. I had the following items installed and/or they came from the factory when I ordered my car:

1) Uconnect hands free with USB port in the glovebox
2) Sirius Sat Radio
3) Steering Wheel Controls
4) Media Centre 130 with single disc CD player
5) Boston acoutic premium sound system

I wanted to swap out the Media Centre 130 for a touchscreen. I had alot of issues finding an aftermarket one and making it work with all the factory components, so I figured I would stay with OEM and swap out for a MyGig. I ordered a Media Centre 430 RBZ (non-navigational) from oemautopartsco.com. I have a Garmin GPS and didnt need a nav unit. I am from Canada. It took about 5 days to ship, and to be honest I think they forgot to send it as I sent them an e-mail asking for an update and it shipped the same day, so maybe this was just a coincidence. They shipped to me via Fedex, and it only took 2-days to get here which is a record for ordering something from the U.S. I was only hit with $25 in brokerage fees, so I still came out on-top even after shipping (total in about $575 after shipping fees etc.). More expensive than some aftermarkets, but less headaches for me. When the unit arrived it was in mint condition. No visible scratches to the screen or any components, you could never tell it was "used". There was a plastic screen protector so I am happy with the purchase and condition, and would recommend those guys.

MyGig RBZ front - this unit does not have navigation/GPS.

MyGig RBZ Rear - When I did the install, the only cables I needed to plug in where the two on the right (large rectangle and small square), and the white and yellow plugs on the left. It was literally plug and play, disconnect from existing and plug into new Mygig
Image

To start:

1) Start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal under the hood.Remove black cover by twisting 2 black knobs, and remove battery cover. Disconnect negative (left) terminal

2) To remove bezel, I used a small screwdriver to just bend back the bezel at the bottom centre, just enough to get a fingernail/finger in there. From there I just started to pull back and the two bottom clips popped out. I worked my way up the sides of the bezel, and kept pulling and it came off. It takes a bit of a tug to pop the clips back, but it came of easily once you can get your fingers under. Again, I started at the bottom centre, parallel with the shifter and pulled back as I went.

3) Once bezel is off, remove four screwed (2 on each side). Save the screws. Slide existing radio back and out. Literally disconnect 4 plugs ( I had the rectangular grey, square grey, yellow, and white). You will have to depress the indent on the regtangular and square one to get the pins to release so you can slide it out. I literally put them in the same place on the Mygig RBZ as the Media Centre 130.

4) Slide screen back in, reinstall 4 screws, put bezel back in place, starting by sliding in the top, then the bottom, then push it in, moving your way down and around.

5) Reconnect negative terminal on battery.

6) End Result:

The process was extermely easy, and only took about 10 minutes. My only issue is when the unit boots up, it says "Chrysler and uconnect". I have tried disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery multiple times, for more than 20 mins, and it still says Chrysler. But it only flashes on the screen for 1-2 seconds at startup, so I really dont care since chrysler makes jeep. Everything else works with the swap, uconnect, steering wheel controls, usb in glovebox, new front usb, dvd/cd.

I'd like to get the new 2013 software in the new ones as it has a cleaner look from what i've seen, but Im not sure how/if it will work or where it would even be available.

Hopefully this helps someone else.

Cheers.

Just a little information from what i've learned since I have the exact same radio. The RBZ is the only mygig made by Mitsubishi the rest are made by harman becker. You can try updating the mygig with the latest software to remove the Chrysler and make it say Jeep.

Since I bought my Jeep brand new I was only able to do one update. I can post my software #'s and you can compare them to yours to see if you have an update available. To update you just burn the update as an iso to a cd-rw and insert it into the mygig. Takes about 10 minutes I believe.

Since you said its a 2010 model i don't believe you have bluetooth streaming capability, but it is worth a try. Jeepcares told me this was a 2011+ feature.

Best of luck with the new mygig!!

It looks like the RBZ is the only MYGIG that is a pain re: changing the startup logo. On the other models it seems it will do it automatically all the time but on the RBZ it may or may not depending on what software version it has and that depends on when it was made. Seems to be late 2010+ models will auto update and earlier won't.

The ones that have the newest software will auto change the logo to the vehicle type it is in after a few startup's. If after a few days it hasn't updated the logo you have an older version( head unit/software version )and you will have to have the dealer associate the VIN with the head unit using a scan tool and then it will change.

So in short if aftr a couple days and some restarts it still hasn't swapped to Jeep go to the dealer and they can associate the radio with the VIN and then it will. Dealer may say it won't work but it does.

Thanks guys.

PatriotMB, if you could post your software version that would be great. It would be nice to confirm that I have the latest and greatest compared to others. Where did you find software updates?

Im pretty sure I have bluetooth streaming but I'll have to double check that is functioning too even though the sound was terrible on my media centre 130. The media centre 130 I pulled out was made in 2008 surprisingly, so I figure a mygig in 2010 will have everything else work I previously had. It is a 2012 vehicle.

Ive read other people having the same issue with the changing logo, but I figured I might get lucky.

Worst comes to worst I'll talk to the dealer at my next oil change as NHPatriot has suggested.

That looks really nice!!

Since I have the same setup you had with the sirius, uconnect, Boston audio and media center 130 in a 2012 year model, now I'm really thinking about the upgrade to a myGig. The only thing is that I would like to have Nav and I don't know if I'll need another antenna or not. Some people say that the new sirius antennas are dual antennas with GPS included, but I really don't know.

My new head unit arrived today and I am going to do the install next week and attempt to use the SirusXM antenna feed, with an adapter to fit a blue GPS input, and see. I am told 2011+ Chrysler brand vehicles that have at least SiriusXM have that dual antenna. I will post up if it works for me or not so watch for the How To I will do?

I have seen where people with that version of the software are having the logo change automatically. It does take a few restarts for it to happen though. Again, if it just won't do it automatically you can have the dealer flash the radio to your VIN and it will then.

I was able to update the software to 10.00.11. The file online seemed to work, although when it was updating, after it finished the software module, the update process stopped, so I was scarred it froze half way through. Luckily I turned the car off and back on and was able to get the disc out and the software is updated to 10.00.11, and everything works. It didn't solve the flash screen problem, it actually changed the Chrysler symbol from the old school one to the newer silver wings with Chrysler in blue background on the wings, and made "uconnect" much smaller font when booting up. Everything else seems to be the same. Looks like i'll have to get the dealer to recognize it.The touchscreen is more responsive, however, this could have been due to the first update.

Hey PatriotMB. I uploaded the file I used to the below site to make it easier for you to access (Software 10.00.11).

http://www.filedropper.com/rb2-rbz100011

I found it on another forum. Like I said in my last post, when I loaded the CD, the update process started and it installed the first module, but then froze after (froze screen, couldn`t remove CD) and it didn't go through the entire process. But I did a "hard reboot" I guess you could say by turning off the car and removing the key, and then turning it to the acc position (one key turn) and removing the CD right away. The system updated to 10.00.11 for whatever reason, and everything works for me. So it seemed to update the software, but nothing else like audio CPU software or anything as that`s where it froze. Im guessing that stuff is missing.

To get the file to work, extract the files using WinRar (I downloaded it free from the net). Once you get the files extracted to your computer, you have to take the individual files it extracted and burn them to a CD. I tried the first time to leave them all in a single folder, but the myGIG didnt read them, but once I have the individual files burned on a CD, once I put in the disc the system update started. As I said, expect it to freezes after about half way through. Would have been nice if if went through the whole process, but I tried all the radio, HDD, etc. and everything works, and the symbol at boot up is updated, even though its the wrong one for me (new chrysler symbol instead of jeep, but that has nothing to do with the update)

Let me know how it works for you, as im curious if it freezes for you too if you try.

Here are some pics:

i am ordering one of these from the same seller after the seller returns a couple questions i asked him.One question was about the Start screen Jeep/Chrysler logo.

#22 ·
Ya I had the same problem.

Nothing really different that I notice with the update. Everything works fine so it didnt hurt anything, and if it did fix anything I didnt notice. The screen seems more responsive, but it could have been like that after the first update. Other than that everything looks the same. The boot screen is different (i.e. the chrysler symbol has changed, as per my previous posted pics). I havnt had the mygig installed for a long time so boot times or anything like that I couldnt comment on as I wouldnt know any different. Its working nicely so I'm happy. My uconnect is much better than with my Media 130 people were saying it had terrible quality but when i tested it today the person said I was coming in really clear, so maybe the Mygig helped with that.

I think im stuck with the Chrysler symbol until I get to a dealer as it still hasnt switched over like I wanted it to.

I've been thinking about upgrading the 130 HU in my wife's 2012 Patriot. She doesn't need nav, but would like touchscreen and a better sounding Bluetooth. It sounds like she's standing outside of the jeep when she calls me...with the windows up, and a hurricane going on. :(

Where is OEMAutoparts getting these "pre-owned" HU's? Are they from totaled vehicles, warranty returns, etc? The price seems right for a HU that will look factory, and not require adapters. I was going to buy a Pioneer from Crutchfield, but the bezel adapter is reported to not fit well, and it requires a more expensive adapter (not the usual free adapter they include).

i have been asking questions to oemautoparts through Ebay and oemautopart's Ebay store. The guy always responds but doesnt really answer in good detail and sometimes skips some of the questions if you ask more than one at a time:doh:

I dont know whats up with the "oemautoparts" place.Ive been sending and receiving emails from one of the reps that takes care of their Ebay business store. The guy has responded to all my emails and we agreed upon a price since they were taking "best offers" on their Ebay MYGIG auction page.We agreed upon a price so all i had to do was submit my offer of the agreed upon price and they would do the rest.Well i submitted my offer and they NEVER responded or accepted it!!WTH?!?!All they did was let my offer expire 2 days later even after we agreed upon a price! Dont know whats up with this place but it ticked me off! I was hoping to get a nice MYGIG to put in this week :(

That's annoying. I ordered straight from their website, was 50 bucks cheaper than ebay if that helps any. Like I said it took them 5 days to ship after I sent a reminder email, but the unit was mint so I have no complaints with it, other than the boot screen issue, but I expected that ahead of time.

#34 ·
I willing to bet your looking at an Ebay auction arent you? I remember reading something identical to that on an Ebay auction page.I didnt buy from that seller because since they say the radio is vehicle sensitive and i also believe that auction states (be sure YOU order the right part),the seller is NOT guaranteeing the buyer that the radio will work plug and play so i didnt buy from them.Your best bet is to buy from someone that guarantees the radio and accepts returns.Be sure to check their feedback as well to see if there has other buyers that have bought a MYgig from them and was happy with it.

#36 ·
Well if you do buy from this seller, let us know how the radio works out for you and who the seller was. When i get mine installed and it works well,im gonna update this thread and let people know who i bought from so in the future, people know who is trustworthy when coming to Mygig sales :smiley_thumbs_up:
