There's a thing on here somewhere about removing the stock radio and swapping it out for a nav unit. It seemed like so much work cause you had to remove the A-pillar plastic and the upper dash assembly just to get to the front radio panel.

Sorry for the freak out but when the answer sits right in front of you and a debate still goes on... well ... I tend to freak out :)
 
Unless, I'm going senile, I remember in the write up, he had to remove the A-pillar plastic to get to the dash.
That's the "proper" way to do it, but it IS possible to get in there without removing the A pillars. The first time I pulled it apart, I only removed one A pillar. The second time I didn't remove either. If you plan to fully remove that full width panel at the front of the dash, yes, the A pillars need to come off. If you only have removal of that top piece above the center stack as your aim, you don't need to pull that full width panel entirely off; just prying up the center section gives enough clearance.
