I will be turning 16 in a few weeks. I test drove a patriot yesterday and I love the small size and good gas mileage. Now, coming from a family that has an escalade and infiniti G35, I was used to some pretty good acceleration. On the test drive, I had the pedal to the FLOOR and it seemed like I was crawling. Any patriot owners that have any input on this it would be appreciated. My parents want to get me something that is capable of getting me out of "danger"' as they put it. Thanks guys!

Well,if you are not inteding to run The Daytona 500 with your Patriot then you will be more than happy with your 172 horses,trust me.
You won't be burning rubber that's for sure for that you get little Honda or Ford Mustang.
I don't think there will be many Patriot owners of your age.I know when I was younger I aimed for the fastest and strongest.I guess you may be more mature than I used to be.
Don't worry though,the Patriot has plenty of power and agility.

ok thanks a lot. I just want something that will be safe and reliable. I am also paying for my gas so I do need something that is good in that sense, yet i dont want to get one of those little toyota yaris lol. The jeep patriot sounds like a good choice.

I think you will find that Patriot will suit an active lifestyle. You can easily mount a kayak or mountain bike on top and load some camping equipment in it and take a few friends with you at the same time. I'm pretty sure that you can even get a tent that will hook to the rear hatch area as well. I think you will quickly find out that the Patriot will meet and exceed most of your needs.

Thanks a lot. Also while sitting in the back seat, i noticed that there is a cupholder on the floor right in the middle. Is this a problem for the back seat passengers? Also, i am a teen age guy and at some point i will probly have 4 other teen guys with me. Will three of them be cramped in the back? Or should i try to limit the back to only 2 people?

The cup holder does kind of get in the way for the middle passenger but not a problem for a small girlfriend. So, 3 in the back is not out of the question. Just depends on the size of your friends.

oh man boo hoo. i cant even imagine what it must be like to have someone willing to buy you a brand new car for over $20,000. having to pay for gas would be a great problem to have in that situation so i'm jealous.

lol thanks for the sarcasm. But we do get the employee discount because my great grandfather worked for chrysler for 40 yrs so its just under 20k.

well congrats, i'm sure you'll love it if you do decide on getting it. i test drove one the other day as well and i am used to a 210 hp V6 and the power wasnt as bad in the patriot as i feared.

yea im used to driving my moms 350 ish hp escalade so as u can imagine, the patriot felt like a golf cart, especially with the cvt lol.

yea, but the cost of driving the Patriot will be a fraction of what the escalade is. Im a 30 year old attorney and I couldnt afford the gas on a escalade with the commute that I have. I guess I could afford it if never went anywhere but work and ate rommen.

lol yea it gets about 14mpg. we fill it up once a week at 60 bucks so its not cheap lol

You should consider yourself rather lucky to get such a fine car at your age.
I do agree about the rear cup holders. That is the one aspect about the Pat that bothers me most. It would be difficult for the rear middle passenger.
But I would think, if I can remember that far back, I really wouldn't care if there were cupholders in my way as long as my friend had wheels.
But as a mom I am a bit more practical, and I do worry about the comfort of the young ones I will be carting around from place to place.
Even though I'm sure they could deal with it, like your friends would.

yea if i do get this car, being that it is brand new, It will be the envy of all my friends. :notworthy: lol and i really dont have a complaint about the back seat cuz im not gonna spend much time back there anyways

take it from someone who lives in the Metro Detroit Area where high speedlimits are more suggestions than anything else, my Pat has enough giddy up to not be mowed down by some douchebag in a bigger SUV.

lol, well then it sounds like ill be ok. i live in the chicago suburbs and we use I94 a lot so i wanted to make sure i would be able to keep up ok.

Seriously, the Partiot is not a Pinto! Did you even test drive it? You should know that it has plenty of HP for American highways. There are mini-vans driving the Autobahn every day. If you're concerned about getting out of trouble, then focus your attention on the Patriot's ESP and AWD...these two features will save your butt more than HP.
