Hi Everyone, took my Patriot to the dealers this morning after earing a knock comming from the driver side.

The 2 front shocks are leaking....! 5 months old, 16000Km! I also mentionned a whinning sound coming from the transmission in the second and third but the mechaninc said it was normal. To be followed closelly!

Yeah the suspension is a joke on these things. Chrysler wont admit it, though.

The ball joints have been a recurring problem noted on here by many people. There are several threads that discuss this. Not sure if they addressed the problems with the 2011+ years, but I thought someone stated the part numbers were the same, so no?

I will deffinetly keep on eye on the ball joints and suspension before the end of the Warranty. I travel from Montreal to Boston twice a month so Im not hard on it, cruise a 110km/hr and the roads are pretty smooth.

So far, not impressed with Jeep quality.

Eh, a Jeep is a Jeep.

Most all the pieces that do wear are relatively well known and fairly straight forward to R&R.

I don't wrench much at all and even I understand the basics of fixing the front end back up!

I would think at 5 months old the dealer might be wanting to help out on those shocks (coil over struts really, no?) You do have a warranty, use it.

I ear you Metaxa, mechanics wears over time....and I am ready to replace parts due to normal wear but after 5 months....suspension!

Thanks for the posts, this is a really great forum. I enjoy my Jeep but for $30000, I was expecting more for the buck!

I owned a Pontiac Montana before my Patriot, I drove the van for 350000km's, replaced several wheel bearings, a few brake jobs, a winshield due to execessive sand blasting on the highway, oil and gas! That's it! Great car and I am sure I could have gotten another 100000km's out of it. Not sure I will reach 200000km's with the Patriot. I hope I will....lol

You're lucky. GMs from those years are notorious for bad wheel bearings. amongst other things. But I loved Pontiac. A shame they got rid of it instead of Buick.

Just curious, but next time you hear that whining turn off your a/c fan blower and see if you still hear it. I notice mine has a cooling fan that makes an awful sound that reminds me of transmission whine, but I turn the blower off and it goes away

I bet your right. Especially if it goes away when you hit the clutch.

Although I will say when I drove my 5-speed Trooper, there was a problem with the radio after about 150,000 miles. When it was cold you could hear a high pitched noise through the speakers relative to the engine RPM. It went away when I hit the clutch, when it was warm, or when I turned off the radio. It sounds like you are hearing a different whining sound though, so its probably something else
