Saturday morning weather drop under -32'C (-25'F) outdoor and when I start my Jeep, I had a few weird issues I wanna share.

1. On the factory remote start, it does not start on the first try, but it start on second try. Not really an issue btw, more an observation...

2. When engine start at first it make a very loud gear grinding/sealing noise, not sure it come from engine or maybe from transmission/transfer case area... stop doing the noise after a few seconds (half a minute).

3. My keyless entry completely stop responding... not a remote control issue because both of my remotes stop working. I finally unlock the door with the key and I stop the engine (remember I remote start it) with the key after a few minutes of run, then keyless came back after the engine stop.

4. My aftermarket Kenwood radio get into "PROTECT" mode. According to the user manual the protect mode is when radio detect a short-circuit into the speakers wiring. That doesn't make sense because all my speaker are factory with factory wiring and I use a harness to install radio, no wires were cut nowhere. I had to perform "HARD RESET" on the radio (loose all my personal settings, **damn**) to make it work again. My theory is because the speakers are sooo much frozen they put too much resistance on the speakers circuits that cause the protect mode to trigger?? But this is the first time it happen on all my cars...

Everything work fine when the Jeep reach the WOT temperature... and this morning it's warmer outdoor (-18'C) and no special issues.

Not warm! WarmER! LOL :)

Trust me, when you go out at -32'C a morning and go out at -18'C the next day, you definitely feel the difference a lot! Honestly -32'C is very cold, but not the colder I ever see, I remember some days where the temperature reach -40'C when you consider windchill. And I don't live in the north of Canada, I'm just 20 minute from the US border in the south of Canada.

When you live here, it's 35'C on summer and -35'C on winter! The funny thing is I cool my house all summer long with a central air conditioner and I heat my house with electric baseboards and a slow burning wood stove all winter long! LOL

Does it do this when you plug your block heater in? The electrical issues sound like a low/cold battery. We have been dealing with -40*C weather all week and I had to move my Jeep to plug it in. It wasn't happy. I had the engine sounds you describe. I don't think they test vehicles for this cold weather, for some reason :p.

No, I didn't use the block heater yet. In fact I never had a block heater installed on any of my previous cars and never had those issues (don't want to start the debate), but I saw there's a factory block heater on the Jeep so I'll use it when temperature goes bellow -25'C, I'll put into in a heavy duty timer and let it warm at least 3 hours before going to work.

Do you think I may consider installing a battery heater blanket maybe? Or did my battery can be worn after 3 years only?
