Extra 12V Power Outlet

Howdy Folks, question for y'all.
I have been wanting to add a second 12V power outlet to the Pat now that I am driving it more myself. I found a nice round cover on the passenger side of the console (CVT). It seems to be about the size of the standard 12V cigarette lighter power outlet, but not sure.

Anyone else think about adding an outlet there, and if so, should I expect any challenges or issues from this install?

I need to be able to use the XM Snap while charging a cell phone or running the GPS. Of course the XM Snap would be plugged into the original outlet to facilitate connection to the AUX-in on the radio, and the hinged cell phone charger should be relatively unobtrusive to the occasional passenger if it needed to be used.

OK, I'm ready for ideas and experience.

Thanks

OK

Cover your looking at is to access a release lever in case you need to shift into neutral without power.
That cover in the trans tunnel is your access point into the switch that unlocks the shift lever if your transmission ever freezes up on you.

so, you want that hole accessible, eh?
I had a suspicion that the hole was the shift lever release (I have had to use it on other vehicles), but I figured that it would still be accessible with a 12V power outlet since they just pop out (like the access cover) with a tug anyway. I do like the picture showing one mounted to the right of the OE location. I'll have to mull it over.

Thanks folks!

Sometimes, if you park against a curb or a rock or something and have any strain on the transmission, when you put it into park the shift lever won't pull it back into gear,

I run a hand held unit charger, a dash camera and satellite phone charger so I know what you are talking about.

When you remove the radio bezel and the radio and look down you can see the power leads going to the one power outlet.
Take a peek and see if you don't want to piggy back off that power lead and simply hang a couple of power points out the trim on the passenger side. You work from the passenger footwell in, simply fish the wires up, into the radio void. I glue gunned a bit of fleece (from those seatbelt slip on protector things) onto the side of the trim so the power point didn't rattle and used really good crimp style nuts and a pro crimper borrowed from my military electronics guru neighbour.

A big knot at the inside of the seam prevents them from pulling down too far and I used a stress union at the point of crimp...picture the crimps being safety wired so even if I do strain the set up the wire takes it, not my crimps.

I don't often have all three in use, usually just two. But all three have been used at once and for an extended period of time and no problems.

I work out of my Pat and I keep regular cell phone, sat phone, hand held and dash cam all going with minimal fuss with three outlets.

Ahhh, the expedient and yet inelegant solution. I got one of those adapters that turns one outlet into two, with USB charging ports too.

The two items you mention no but like Todde said, if you are adding in a heavy use item it might be time to think about coming direct from the battery.

In an earlier post of mine...I have two outlets coming off the stock outlet wiring (three in total). I run a dash camera, a satellite radio charger, a cell phone charger and a hand held unit charger with regularity and often have all three in use. This has been going on for a full year and no issues at all.

But if I was to use my inverter in the Patriot I'd clip it directly to battery, I'd not run it along with all my chargers from the in cabin point.

Why not get one of these:
It's what I use...
