have a 2014 Patriot with the plastic kick panels on the outside of the door. Looking to have people post pics who have removed them, even though the front and rear bumpers still have the black plastic. I know some of the older models didn't have that black plastic on the bumper area. Trying to make a decision on if I should remove them or not

they may or may not be clipped on, which means you will have holes in your bumper after removing them. OR they might just be taped on. If you suspect they are, use a hair dryer, or heat gun to heat it up then it should pull off with some good force. Just know that you may have a calcium ring where the trim used to be. And if they are taped on, and you liked them on better, just buy some 3M Automotive tape, and tape them back on!

well we are having some body work done this week which would require the panel to be removed anyways. We are planning on having the shop take its time with removing it anyways just in case. They said if it breaks they could get us a replacement pretty cheap anyways. I guess this way I can see if I like the look. I was hoping someone on here has done the work and could post pics though.

I was thinking about doing this to my Riot. I'm not certain as well, however, the plastic panel at the bottom underneath the doors (I don't know if you want to call that a rocker panel or not) does appear to be bolted on, and may look funky if it is just removed and not replaced with anything. One thing I always did when I was getting experimental was to take some fishing line and wiggle it in behind the panel. Usually, if it didn't get that far in before stopping, it was adhesive, but if it went in a few inches before stopping, it was clips.
Regardless, the removal of those plastic side panels and rocker panel, and make a little kick panel that keeps the lines of the Jeep would be slick looking, even if a little extra body work was needed. Double the coolness if the plastic looking bumpers underneath were painted to match the body!

yeah the bottom trim at the bottom of the door that runs from front to back was going to stay. The older models didn't have the black plastic trim on the bottom of the front and rear bumper trim. I was more concerned of how clean it would look with the lower door panels removed against the way the front and rear bumpers look and that trim across the very bottom. I need to make this decision quickly..... Does anyone one the site do photoshop???

Seems like I remember that when I removed my speakers for replacement, there were square holes in the lower door exterior sheet metal with plastic "spikes" that somehow connect the lower plastic panels on. The square holes are approximately 1/4" in size.

UPDATE!! Tree grower is correct. My body shop called me and sent me some pics of the holes in the bottom. Oh well, I was torn anyways and I don't feel like going thru all that work. So the panels stayed. Got it back from the shop on Friday and it looks clean with no more Wolverine marking in the passenger door....lol

While they had it, I had them remove all the emblems except the front and rear JEEP emblems. I also had the Tail lights and 3rd brake like tinted as well. Looks sharp
