Leaks is one reason I prefer to not have a sunroof.

Oh and headlight dimmer switches on the floor, I had many vehicles like that, even some with no 4 way marker lights, and my Mustang had the 4 ways flashers, but had a toggle switch in the glove box. If you guys remember dimmer switches on the floor, then you have to also remember them rusting out from salt too.

The Jeeps I drove in the Army had the starter on the floor.

Sun/moon roof not really desired. I've had vehicles w/ them before, and tired of hearing the creaking around them.

Arkansas... salt???? <g> Still, yeah, I've read about them rusting.

Thanks,
Tommy

On the way home Friday, my Riot was covered in salt, then over that was sand as some areas in the mountains used anti-skid rather than salt.

I had to go to a wand car wash to get the ice out of my wheel wells, or I would have not been able to put chains over the tires. I even missed a big hunk of ice behind the one tire, and I had to chip that ice off with a screwdriver. Before squirting the ice out, it looked like the tire was rubbing on the ice all around.

I was lucky, a couple times, I just made it to Pgh Friday morning before they closed 28 due to a roll over. Then later when on I-80, the road was closed just after my exit due to accidents.

Don't you wish the people without Jeeps would just stay home? :D

Thanks for that reply. My decision seems to have been boiled down to either a RAV4, likely an '08, with about 30-35k miles vs. a new Pat.

I haven't followed the corporate dances, but what you posted is what I've gathered the past week.

What you posted about past QC issues is what I'd expect by the 5th year of a model. As I noted before, I started a similar thread on a RAV4 forum. Many folks there love their vehicles, likely for good reason. They seem very capable. However, I have received a lot more solid and factual reasons here. Also, many of the persistent issues w/ the RAV4 are pretty costly too.
Oh, some of them leak, too... possibly a CUV curse??? :icon_rolleyes:

Tommy
i still think the rav4 is more of a station wagon.

So am I missing something here or is a "dead pedal" just an odd name for foot rest?
Apparently in rally cars they put in an actual pedal for the left foot to rest on. Hence the term "dead pedal".

I remember as a kid, loading the family and all our stuff for a week at North Bay fishing, into an old station wagon. Somehow we got everybody and all the gear into those.
One of the best family vehicles we've owned wa a '96 Toyota Corolla Wagon. With the Sears cartop carrier, and the back filled we made many a trip from SW LA or SE TX up to central Ark. That cartop carrier sure made it
"interesting" in crosswinds or icy conditions though.

Well... I made a trek and bought the RAV4. It had some features I wanted that the Patriot didn't, mostly a 3,500 pound towing capacity (although I can't see towing anything over about 25-2600#). The dealer worked in a Toyota Service Agreement "platinum" warranty that is 99% bumper-to-bumper out to 100k miles that that did "it" for this vehicle. That said, the minivan is going to "go" in a year, 18 months max. IMO. There's a good chance wifey will 'get' the RAV4 and a Patriot may very well be the minivan's replacement.

All this, to say thanks for all the good, and patient, replies to my questions.

Sincerely,
Tommy

good luck with your station wagon!
(ha ha,just kidding)

Naw, I have deemed it a "truckette"!
Outward (yeah, station wagon-ish I agree) appearances aside it is a lot more truck-ish than I expected. I figure the "Sport" model suspension helps with that. Some good floor liners, and seat covers and, if "Gorbal warming" keeps dumping icy stuff on us a set of steel wheels and snow tires are in the future I see.

M1Tommy, you are not going to buy a Jeep Patriot. You say a chance your Wife will get it, you will be Driving it. You stay with Toyota. I can't believe how much hashing you do about the Jeep Patriot and then buy something you were probably going to buy all along. You can now go to the Cute RAV Website and start hashing it with your fellow RAV Owners. Good Luck and Goodbye!!

I was making an exit, explaining my reasoning for any who might have wondered. What made my decision was what I said would make my decision, features and money. period. Folks here gave me a ton of good info. I haggled a good enough a deal for a RAV4 that made the better vehicle for us. "Cute" and other appearance based descriptors don't really matter to me.

Anyways, this is as close as I get to an internet-argument. It's y'alls forum, so I reckon I'll bid a final good bye, for now, including email notification so I won't be tempted into silly urination contests.

Sincerely,
Tommy
