the earlier drive review was done about a year ago.

did you see the comparison review in drive a month or go ago. It compared the diesel soft-roaders like x-trail, VW Tiguan etc. The Pat didn't perform too well against the others, with them rating the Pat equal fourth below the X-Trail, Tiguan and pitted it with the Kia Sportage and Suzuki Grand Vitara. The Hyundai Santa Fe was rated better!!! My first thought after looking at the competition in my initial testing phase was what the f....

So, I read the article and I thought it was biased and very unfair cause above all else it was making a comparison with cars that were 6-9k more expensive. They also labelled the interior cheap, which I didn't think so (although even the critics in the US did that and Jeep responded with the new 09 interior layout). I had a drive of the Nissan diesel and i wasn't impressed. It just wasn't fun, like the Pat.

Maybe if Jeep offered the Freedom Drive II package downunder, it would seriously compete with the X-Trail.

Besides, every second soft-roader is an x-trail and it looks boring. Who wants to conform!

oh, you don't have the diesel version in the US? hmmm, bummer....Diesel is becomming quite a talking point in Oz these days, better fuel economy. Considering we're paying upwards of 1.50 / litre (for regular unleaded) and 1.60 (for diesel), which is about 6.4 USD a gallon (almost double what you pay), every extra km out of the tank is worth it.

Is the nissan rogue or the x-trail variant, or is it the Hilux (Aussie version), i.e. slightly larger, but not the pathfinder?

never be surprised that the press bag a Jeep has been happening for years

the patriot is the cheapest of the 5, has the best fuel economy, as good offroad as any of these

it has 3 things the others don't have JEEP badge, a jeep look and a jeep feel
destined to be in the bottom 2 in the press

i've had mine for 12 months done 18000k and love it

only real issues - the lighter interior on the drivers door has stained a little and the crd is a little noisy in lower gears

it achieves great fuel economy, drives well, is comfortable on long trips the CRD is great

Kookaburra - The Nissan Rogue is the American equivalent of the X-Trail (which we've never had here) but without comparing all of their specs, I think they have more differences than similarities. Several years ago, all I could think about was owning a Nissan Xterra - very capable offroad, decent price in the US, but its gas mileage is nothing to brag about.
