I think I'll try the reflective black with the SBO Patriot.

I got a bit creative and made an insert I would really like to buy...

I like the idea. Please post some pics when you're done. I'm thinking that would look good on my black limited too.

Ahhh the joys of personal expression. (ain't it a great country we live in?)

Personally, I wish they didn't even have the indentations for the word Patriot on the back. Why not in the black step instead? As it is, now I have to hand wash and dry those 7 letters with greater detail than a flat panel.
Now THAT'S lame. :p

If a person wants to highlight that area..I say let 'em have at it. (but please..no reflective colors? You don't wanna look like a taxicab, do ya?)

Hey, that looks excellent on your black Pat, jimmy.

I still wonder about how they'll look at night though. (I realize it's darned hard to get a good pic at night, so I'll probably have to wait to see them in person *sigh*)

Also, yours (and other colors like it) will be color matched and that will really help it's appeal. I didn't see SBO colors on those letters, or did I miss them Wade?

Well.. dark, like most things at night.
Not sure what you mean.....

The letters appear to be hand cut. Or maybe an exacto.
But they are def. NOT machine pressed. When looking at them on the sticker sheet, you think.. oh my.... 'ghetto'....

But...
Can of 3M sticker removal at foot, I appled them anyway. Even managed to get the O crooked.

Eh.. I don't hate it. Kinda like it. Maybe like it a little more than kinda... eerrggh

My girlfriend, who originally thought it was a horrible idea looked and said, "Hey, that's not so bad." (Endorsement? or Put Down?)

So they are on there for a while.....

No kidding? NOT machine pressed? oh mannn.. Lets hope the guy has a steady hand, eh?

BTW, yours is one of the most truthful endorsements I ever read...
..don't hate it..kinda like it..maybe more like it... :D

Can't beat honesty..

Oh, I see.

I thnk they call it reflective in the auction.

It's really just high gloss.

In the right nightime light and angle it shines a little. But again, more of a gloss shine then a firetruck stripe shine.

I like that look a lot... I may have to watch for a set for my Black Patriot. I've had my eye out for one of those rear window decals that just says JEEP in big white letters but havent come across one yet...

...but to be honest I havent looked very hard either. I'll get around to it one day.

Wow, now that's whatcha call detailed pics.

It also makes me firmly believe that if I can play around enough to make a good template..I can cut those out of some-kind-of 3M tape as well. (I'm guessing the real work is a quality template though)

Thanks so much for taking those super-close-ups Jim.:notworthy:

I should have scanned the stickers before putting them on and got a template.
Did not even think of it. I guess at the time I was thinking 'What would a template of these kindergarten crafts be good for?' :icon_rolleyes:

May I ask what specifically you don't like about them?
(I'm nosey as hell, ain't I?)

I still think that I may have to make a template of the back indentations and try to cut out a set for myself, but from what nnj showed in the pics, I think I could take a little more time to cut cleaner (crossing fingers).

Maybe they'll look better once you get 'em on cadavev??

Amy,

I'd try Playdoh but I'm afraid I wouldn't get around to finishing the task at hand cuz of all the playing around I would be doing!
But actually not a bad idea...
It would depend on how much shrinkage there is in the playdoh as it drys to a tracable hardness. Hey, it can't hurt to give it a shot. Next time I'm over at Wallyworld, I'll grab a can of it and give 'er a shot.
Thanks for the idea!

...or if my wife catches me doing nothing all day but building little animals, I'm gonna blame you for the cause. ;) :D

maybe molding stuff would work a bit better from the craft area I just had it on my mind from my daughter playing with playdoh. It would give you a very acurate form. When the kids make things they dont want to rip up and put it in the containers I let it dry, It shrinks a bit. And theres nothing wrong with building with playdoh. I go play with the moon sand and playdoh when the kids are asleep while I'm suposed to be cleaning it up lol. My husband allways catches me and thinks im crazy, although he did catch me building a mini city and my sons villians stomping all over them. He wanted to squash some too.

I am not crazy as to how they are cut and by the detailed pics i see why i feel that way. I am picking up my pat today after not seeing it for 3 weeks due to wind damange. so well see how they look when i get a moment to try thme on.

alternative to stickers

As far as a template, Jimmy took some good photos and it would be just a matter of scaling them correctly and tracing to develop you owner sticker.

Other idea: I know that the sticker is somewhat a semi-permanent modification, but what about painting? The sticker provides a contrasting color, but because it is only at the bottom of the indentation it does not provide a substantial letter. It might be better if you hand paint the letters. I would think that you could mask at the rim and islands (P A R O), and paint in the bottom and sides. This would really add depth to the lettering.

The template idea sounds like one to try Joseph...good call.

As for painting..I see a couple of problems with that..as least for me.

1) I would worry about how accurate I would be since I would have to be stooped down so low to work on it (ya have to remember I'm old and fat!), and
2) with accuracy in mind, I would worry about smooth lines with a brush at the angle from which I would have to work.

Me thinks the template and cutting evenly will be my choice for overall ease of work.
