Curious to know what’s the cheapest car to insure according to a recent study?

According to Insure.com, the cheapest vehicle to insure from the 2014 model year is a Jeep Wrangler Sport. Based on full coverage for a 40-year-old male with a clean driving record and good credit, the 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sport will cost $1,080 to insure for the entire year. That rate is based on a 100/300/50 policy and has a $500 deductible on collision and comprehensive coverage.

According to Insure.com two main factors play into the SUV’s low insurance rate. First, it’s generally driven by safe drivers. Second, it’s easy and cheap to fix.

If the Wrangler isn’t quite your taste but you’re still looking for a bargain when it comes to insurance, other low-cost options include the Honda Odyssey LX, Jeep Patriot Sport, Honda CR-V LX, and Jeep Compass Sport.

The averages were calculated using data from six large carriers including Allstate, Geico, Farmers, Nationwide, Progresssive and State Farm.

It comes down to the area you live as well. I work at Geico and I've watched peoples policies jack up in price (sometimes over $800) from moving from a rural part of town into the city. High traffic areas such as NYC, Miami, Chicago, etc have some of the most expensive policies.

i pay $210/month for insurance right now. Have had my license 7 years and no accidents or tickets. It gets renewed in may I think so I'll have to go in and try and get it cheaper than what it is, because its ridiculous

I'm currently shopping around for a better rate as I'm sitting @ $1,800 a year. Thats with a $2 Million liability policy (the standard amount in Toronto) / $500 collision / $300 comprehensive and 1st accident forgivness. I have a perfect 7 star driving record and my current rate is coupled with home coverage.

It really pisses me off as I've been driving for more than 34 years with never an at fault accident or traffic ticket. What kind of rate would I have if I ever got a moving violation ticket? I drive 6km one way to work and drive 10k km annually.

God help you if you are 18 yrs old and looking for car insurance. Rates as high as $3 to 5,000/yr are the norm and thats with a USED car!!!!

Damn, I got my riot at 19 (no co-signers) and my insurance for full coverage with some pretty darn decent figures was only 60$ a month, now that I've moved to Washington state it has increased to 110$/m but that also comes bundled with renters insurance (at 11$/m) I've had countless speeding tickets (old car) and 1 insurance claim (not my fault), I never understand how people get high rates, I do use usaa, so I assume that has Somthing todo with it, but still nothing better for people out there?

I'll chime in from the other side of the country.

Mine is insured as a work vehicle and also I drive into a higher rated area so I pay that rate.

I have all perils, loss of use, glass, etc. Towing and other roadside assistance is included.
My deductibles are $300 collision and $500 comprehensive. 5 mil liability.
Its replacement cost insurance, it gets broken I get a brand new one.
Under insured motorist protection.

Windshield cost me $200 to replace and often the glass shops are running a special that just happens to be the exact same as that deductible.

$164 per month or just under $2,000 a year.

0 claims, 0 accidents, full discounts...40% I think.

Location definately makes a huge difference. I moved last fall from suburban Seattle (on the edge of that) to rural Montana and Geico, who I'd had for years, offered a $50/mo lower rate all else being equal. I ended up bundling with State Farm with my homeowners and now have full coverage with $1000 comp/collision deductible and much much better coverages for $65/mo (that's just the car insurance portion).
