Ok i need help. I want to remove my center console for some cupholder modification, but I am nervous about breaking any fragile clips. Has anyone done this yet that could lend some advice?

1. Set the parking brake lever in the up position.
2. Remove the two screws from the console bin.
3. Lift the console (4) up at the front from underneath right hand and left hand sides of console base at the same time and release the console clips (1).
4. Lift console from rear and release the rear clips (3).
5. Disconnect the electrical connector (6).
6. Lift the console (1) up and over the park break lever (2) and remove
Is this any different for a manual transmission? I have a 2007 Limited and I'm stuck on step 3 below. The front does not lift and is still stuck on something. The back lifts but not enough to see what's going on in the front. Any help much appreciated, thx.
I have a 2010 and mine is a bit different. On mine I pop the plastic base of the shifter boot out. Not around the chrome, but the plastic on the outside of the chrome. The rest is pretty obvious. There are four screws, and then carefully lift up the console and unplug the 4WD switch which also carries the wires to the cup holder lights..
It is simple, but the third time I did it I broke the bottom of one of the storage areas. Oh well, a little epoxy and it's good enough. Just be careful and have patience. I normally don't start these types of projects until I've consumed at least 3 beers.
Don't pull any of the plastic interior parts appart if your Pat hasn't warmed up a bit. If the interior plastic is cold you're more likely to start snapping bits as the plastic is more brittle.
I haven't been on the forums for quite a while, alot going on in life.
Finally got a chance to start reading all the posts I've missed and I need to say THANKS Davecanuck!! that was a great detailed explination for removing the center console =)
