Hi guys, I need some help! Today I test drove a patriot which I loved until I hit about 3.5k rpm and the engine lost power wouldn't really rev but drive in almost a limp mode, turned it off and on again and all was fine. What could be wrong? Thanks... Possibly a new member, Nealle!

Hi
It's a 2007, used car, got 78k miles on the clock, absolutely mint inside and out.
After I got back off the test drive the dealer took me out in it and it was fine.
Just seemed a little odd that turning it off and on and it's fine.

Plus it's a 2007 -- the first year for the Patriot/Compass. Yep, run don't walk. Could be something minor or it could be a flood vehicle with electrical gremlins. I don't think you want to pay to find out. You will find another one in mint shape.

I'd recommend a privately owned one with complete service records, either a 5 speed manual transmission or the 6 speed regular automatic.

If you otherwise like the vehicle, and they really want to sell it, bring the problem to their attention and ask (demand) an extended warranty as a condition of the sale. Or just keep looking.

Even with an extended warranty, if it starts acting up, it could be sitting over at the dealership more than he's driving it. Especially if it's something that can't be traced easily. If it's intermittent, they'll probably pronounce it "fixed" and keep sending him on his way.
