My Patriot has only done 1200 miles, but since new the suspension has been the only thing that has disappointed me. I can feel every bump in the road and it can be annoying even on reasonably smooth tarmac. Is this just a new car thing (will it get better with time ), can it be adjusted or will I just have to put up with it. Thanks in advance.

what are you used to?

if your used to sedans,
Yes Jeep can feel bumpy,
If your used to Jeeps and 4x4's Pat is as smooth as it gets,
Bumpy ride is inherent to 4x4's

The Patriot is pretty good on smooth roads, but on poorer roads the front wheel drive set up transmits more noticeable noise and vibes than my Cherokee did in 2WD. Sometimes it reminds me of my old FWD Dodge O24 and Rampage. It improved a bit as the tires wore in. Other than the HP, that's the most noticeable difference to me between my XJ and the MK. That difference in drivelines is also responsible for the great mileage increase. There are always trade offs.

I had a Skoda Superb large sedan then a Dodge Caliber I swapped for the Patriot. I'm sure my Pat has a more comfortable ride than both of the other two.My Mrs is older than me with some incapacity problems & she does'nt complain , so this is a positive sign.

I for one am happy with the firmer ride that the pat provides then the sedan feel (after ten years of driving a sedan), no complaints from DW or kids who are used to driving around in a Chev Astro (built on the S10 frame so "truckish" vs minivan in any case)

Thanks for the replies people. Used to have a 95 cherokee sport which was a smoother ride but a lot higher milage and different tyres. will get used to pat its just something i'm not accustomed to. Its not like theres anything mechanically wrong.

cherokee sport?

smoother ride?
I had a 1990 sport,
great Jeep,
but in no way would consider it smooth,
maybe the changed it by 95,
but to me, pat is a world of difference compared to the sport.

What tires did you have?

I used to drive a wannabe-sports car with its stiff suspension and I thought the Patriots suspension was kind of bumpy. That is, until I got some proper rubber underneath it... The stock Continentals in European Patriots make for an unpleasantly bumpy ride! Just not enough side wall for the vehicle size, I'd imagine. While the difference between the stock tire size and my current one isn't a huge one, the quality of the ride is.
