Bearing Noise Location

With the warmer weather the bearing noise on acceleration has become more evident along with the "chirping" or "cricket" noise. I want to narrow down for the dealer where the rattling is coming from so I took a plastic rebar rod 18" long and placed it at various locations on the pully side of the engine that were within reach. This makeshift stethescope really works as the noisey bearing is so evident. I'll have to recheck but I believe the noise is coming from 5 or 6 in the diagram below which I think is the 2.4 L. Can any member name all 8?

Instead of starter, I am thinking maybe oil pump. Starters are not belt driven, and they do not drive a belt... They are electric and have a little gear with their own connection to the engine

Thanks blackhemi4x4!!:notworthy:

I noticed as well that the bolt holding on the tensioner (#8) has got grease all over it whereas both the upper & lower idler pulley bolts(9 & 5) are clean and dry, another indication that the bearing is failing.

1 POWER STEERING PUMP
2 ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT
3 ALTERNATOR
4 CRANKSHAFT PULLEY/AC
5 LOWER IDLER PULLEY
6 CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
7 WATER PUMP PULLEY
8 ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT TENSIONER
9 UPPER IDLER PULLEY

I thought I would give an update on the bearing noise I have on my 2010 during acceleration. I took it into the dealer today and told them that I believed that the serpentine belt tensioner bearing was failing and left it with them. Sure enough I got a call at work a couple of hours later confirming that it was shot.

Picked her up and ahhhhhhhhhhhhh nice and quiet now!!:D

Diagnosing it before hand sure helps a lot. They must think I'm some know it all but I figure I might as well point them in the right direction!;)
