I have a 2011 Jeep Patriot 4 wheel drive something in my engine bay has been banging my frame for a long time I can feel it through the driver seat I take it into my mechanic that works on my car I told him my symptoms and he looked underneath and he said he doesn't think anything is wrong with the car everything under there was tight and not moving nothing was loose still when I go over the slightest crack in the road I feel a violent bang on my frame or subframe I can feel it and you can hear it it's not the motor mounts had them checked I'm positive as to what it is it's very annoying I don't even want to drive the car anymore

Recently, I had an "is it normal" post, where this was occurring right after I had my front suspension replaced and front axle passenger side replaced... alignment that day as well, I figured it was a torque issue, and that it would work itself out by the end of the day, it did. And the next day after a balance & rotation, there was one last rub sound going on on the driver side and by the end of that day... all was well. This is rare, but I felt blessed nonetheless. Wondering if this could be going on, a torque issue, at any rate, a dealership can "shake it out, look it over and torque it back" as they say.

If your suspension parts are solid, next I'd check the exhaust system.

I doubt motor mounts would react to cracks in the road. When mine have failed I usually notice the clunk when I touch the gas or let up on the gas. When the engine rocks, it knocks against the mounts.
