If it has 7 slots in the grill today and it says Jeep on it it is a Jeep. If you want to be known as a Jeeper then you have EVERY right to declare such a thing .

It's taken quite a while, but I finally have gained some respect with the local club, who's is 98% wranglers. It takes going out with them, and showing that my jeep does jeep things. I think I have changed a few minds, or at least softened some hearts.

I will be taking County Road 438 in Marquette County to Munising. Trail saves 15 minutes but is washed out and sandy and rough. This is why I bought the Jeep Patriot. In the U.P. and Northern Wisconsin there are times when trails are cut acrosses and The Patriot allows me to use them. I am not worried about being called a Jeeper, more like being called a smart navigator.

 

o k, maybe I expressed this question in the wrong way. it's not that I am looking to be labeled a Jeeper, or anything else for that matter. It just annoys me when you talk to someone in the parking lot, next to their Wrangler, and you tell them "Wow nice mags or fogs or whatever" and the chat go back and forth until they find out you drive a Riot. It burns my butt, that's all.

 

I have said it before and I will say it again. Who cares what other people think. You pay for it so it only matters if you like it.

Let the Wrangler owners be snobs if they want. The Patriot has more room and gets a lot better MPG. It is more than capable off road as well.

Life is too short to worry about such things.

Frankly I wouldn't take a Wrangler as a gift. Well, I would of course but only to sell it. I would never own one. Uncomfortable, cramped, noisy, and bad MPG even with the new Pentastar V6.

 

A lot of your "Wrangler Fanboys" as I like to call them, insult the Patriot because on the inside they're probably jealous. If you think about it, what's not to like about the Patriot? It's comfortable, good looking, fuel efficient, and still off road capable, and budget friendly! I'm not saying it will out wheel a Wrangler or Grand Cherokee, but for what 80% of people who own one use them for, the Patriot can do as well. And unless they're the ones making the payment for you their opinion doesn't matter one bit! Enjoy your JEEP.

 

Funny think. I get more waves from Wranglers than any other Jeep.

 

I try to wave at people in Wranglers and they look at me like I'm Hitler. Or so it seems. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Lol

 

Hey don't get me wrong folks, I love my Patriot.
I just ordered a new 2013 North Plus Altitude. I should be getting on Wednesday. This Jeep does everything I need it to do and more.
I was just wondering if I was the only one who noticed this about the Wrangler folks, and by the looks of it I am not.

 

I own both and haven't gotten any backlash from the wrangler folks when we drove the patriot. They're both a jeep and awesome in my book!!!

 

Also the fact that the FD2s look like Patriots on stilts. You can definitely tell an FD2 coming when you see one. I would think those Pats can keep up with WJs and Tjs no problem.

 

Its the same no matter what your ride.

I ride a little Yamaha TW which is the world's most awesome motorcycle and you can see it as I go down the highway. Bikes coming towards me flick the wave at the bikes ahead of me but as they pass me they stare straight ahead.

Not all of them, of course, but thwe same percentage of snobs ride as drive I expect.

I went out with some guys that didn't think I'd be able to keep up and by the end of the ride htey and myself were pretty impressed by the capability of the Riot

 

Oh, don't feel so bad! When I line up my old army jeep along side the wranglers, et. al, they wonder about my skinny tires, the fact that I don't have wider rims, mud flaps, a winch, or one of those 4' bumper jacks they carry. However, I can squeeze between narrower openings in the forest than they can and with my lower gearing, I could probably climb a telephone pole if needed, but makes it smoother to crawl over deep ruts and large boulders. The only thing I have in common with them is I do have a jerry can...

Funny. I have a 2013 Camaro and I'm a member of a popular camaro forum...there's the wave/no wave debate there too. Seems that most fellow 5th generation camaro owners don't wave back and that really bothers some people.

I used to own a Wrangler in college and ALWAYS got the wave from fellow wrangler owners. It was cool at first but got annoying after a while. I always felt obligated to always wave or look for the wave. The wave Never happened in any of the 20 other cars I owned. I don't think Wrangler owners (or anyone else for that matter) thinks of a Patriot as a "real" Jeep. Sorry if I offended some by that. But it's: much too little (quite tiny actually), most are 2 wheel drive, low to the ground, and only come with a whiny 4 cyl that can barely get the vehicle out of its own way.

I used to ride motorcicles and some waive, some do not. the best were the metric cruiser/touring riders. sport bikes are not big waivers, and harley riders mostly only to harleys, and nobody waives to scooters....

 

My mother has a '09 CRV...hate to say the cargo area of the CRV dwarfs that of the patriot...You should check it out, its surprising. That means a lot to us since we drive a lot and have a baby with a lot of necessary stuff to bring. I started using a roof mounted cargo carrier and we are still jam packed inside. I'm going to move up to using a trailer for our next Holiday trip!

nd, my ground clearance is ok now that I'm running 235's, but pathetic when I had the stock 205's. it should never come with 205's. They are way to small and there are no tires in the size. Yours is probably better since you have a 4wd and a newer patriot, since they sit higher. But 09 and 2wd is very low, especially with the stock 205's. I'm glad your happy with the Patriot and yours being 4wd probably feels more jeep-like and significant/practical. But, for us it doesn't work size wise. We only have one baby so far and already out of room on a road trip. No way it's going to fit two kids and their stuff.

For what its worth, I think the patriot is a great looking vehicle (once larger wheels and tires are installed).

they do it for fuel economy. Less unspring weight, narrower tires = less friction, and they are cheaper...

But I agree, and the FDII's should come with at least an AT tire... I would prefer an alloy 15" with MT tires stock... and not lame all season highway tires.

 

I personally just love how the Patriot rides. It handles the road very well. Went from driving the Patriot to a Honda Accord for a couple of days, on the same road I felt every little bump in the Accord, in the Patriot, hardly anything.

 

I wouldn't mind if the patriot was 2" longer, and that 2" was added to the passenger door.... it would be much easier to get kids in and out of, but then it wouldn't be as good to take my son places like this:

 

The short wheel base is great for off roading.

 

The jeep wave goes waaay back in the Day before there was anything called an SUV. The Patriot won't and can't go heavy rock crawling, steep hill climbing cause it's not made to hang with an MB,CJ,TJ, and what have ya. I wave in my CJ, sometimes an XJ will wave at me when I'm driving my MJ and have yet to have another Patriot wave to me when I'm driving my Patriot. Most if not 90% of Patriot owners drive on a dirt road and think they're 4-wheeling, that's the way it is. Yes the Patriot is a very good Vehicle and has its place in the Jeep line-up. It just does not and will not hang with the others old and new (Wrangler). Keep waving at all Jeeps and if they wave back that's all the better and if they don't wave don't take it personal cause as a Patriot owner we know what our Patriot's are capable of as the others don't. Not a big deal. Back in the day a Jeep CJ driver would'nt dare wave to a Toyota Land Cruiser and is still that way to this day. Those that have done some heavy wheeling and have owned numerous jeeps know what I'm saying. Anyway if it says Jeep on it, I think everyone should wave to each other as long as it's a Jeep. Maybe some on here have rescued another Jeep be it a Wrangler, TJ, CJ, MB,XJ,MJ as the list goes on and has earned or will earn the Respect of the so-called Jeep Jeeps. Keep on Waving...... If the other Jeep drivers want to be Snobs let em cause one day the Patriot may come to their rescue. My 2-cents.

 

I have owned a 95 yj and also a 88 Toyota Hilux Surf.... if you dont know what that is then we have a problem.. I will put that hilux over my yj anyday of the year. I have seen personally a Rubi get hung up on simple ****. People who claim a patriot is not a jeep need a reality check for one and also the on;ly real jeeps are those old classic willeys that are still floating around. Sides if a 4 door wrangle is a jeep then so is my Patriot!!!!!!!End of story

Funny, when I was younger I had a CJ5. My father in law at the time, retired president of Sac Jeepers...and who had an old square fender high hood Willeys with an Olds 455 welded in and he didn't consider my 5 a real Jeep.

Same grumble, different generation. He would have never considered a Wrangler. To long, to wide.

 

Yeah, some Jeep people always consider the new ones to be lesser vehicles. Even when I had my Cherokee, there were Jeep people who looked down on it. You can never satisfy them. And the funny thing is that if you go back you see that Jeep has pretty much always produced models that were aimed at the broader market.

Having had my Patriot for about a month, I've decided that it's more of a wagon then a classic SUV. Which is fine with me.

 

Bottom line. My patriot gets me absolutely anywhere I need to go. It does so while burning very little gas, and my monthly payments are lower than they would have been on another jeep. I also think my patriot looks damn good. I'm paying for it and I got it because I like it. Who cares whether wrangler drivers wave or not, they are not paying for your vehicle. The patriot is a jeep. A damn good one at that. I would not trade my patriot for a wrangler now or later. If I ever notice wrangler owners being snobby, I'll just stop waving myself.

 

Simple fix is "Don't wave" I never waved when I had my YJ unless I knew who it was and there weren't many I knew.
