More of a warm air intake. I'm working on building a shield that will use the existing intake resonator to provide cooler outside air. But for now this will do. I won't go into details but I will let the pictures do the talking.

Nice job & fit!!--However I am not a great fan of CAI-WAI or whatever. They always seem to be far too exposted to outside elements to me . Frost, Damp, Mud , Insects & all the other gunge thrown up from the underside. Nice noise for road work --but not sure about usage in a muddy wilderness.

-performance (possible added HP gains in the upper curve for warm air intakes)
-better fuel mileage (i'll see how much mileage I gain. I use fuelly.com to track my mileage so I'll have a track record)


-I will add that the intake noise is quite louder. A lot more throatier then I personally like.

and for those who are curious. Here's some details

-2.5" to 3" stainless steel pipe (painted flat black)
-1/2" brass fitting
-performance intake filter (w/ 3" opening)
-1/2" ID black PVC tubing

-using my drill press and a 1/2" bit I drilled open a 1/2" hole for the fitting.
-inserted the 1/2" fitting and applied some epoxy to hold into place. (let cure for 24hrs)
-masked the fitting and painted the pipe extension with the same flat black paint I used to paint my muffler
-fit the intake filter onto the extension pipe.
-fit the extension pipe/filter to the existing intake pipe.
-cut a section of the 1/2" ID PVC tubing to replace the existing air breather tube.
-fit the PVC tubing to the existing outlet on the top of the engine valve cover then fit to the 1/2" brass valve tubing.
-if you noticed I placed a piece foam tape where the old air box sits. The new filter was resting on it.
-loosely secure the intake pipe to the upper radiator hose with black zip ties to prevent excessive movement.

I really like the look and finish of your CAI install Nice and clean. Great job!

I know, from previous experience, that pod filters allow a derestricted air entry to the engine, however, i have never yielded any improvement in fuel consumption in past installs (including ones with or without heat shields). I have held back on installing this on my Pat becoz of the silly orientation of the intake piping (directed towards the firewall?!?) as well as the lack of decent "cold air" flow that the filter would receive in such a location, whether in motion or stationary. The only positive gain I have had previously was mid to top end throttle response but at higher rpms. I'm skeptical that anyone would gain mileage from such filters, especially if you tend to lose bottom end power. These filter systems, i believe, are utilised best with bigger capacity motors or forced induction with complementing exhaust systems.

I hope you gain what you are seeking in doing this mod. Just my 2c.

BTW, I have seen someone on this forum who modified his original air box and converted it to the heatshield of his pod filter (sorry, cant insert link here for that thread but I know it's around here somewhere.) Good luck

I'm aware of the poor location of the filter and I have seen someone modify his stock intake box. However, I don't want to modify my stock box. As for gaining cold air I was planing on making a heat shield/box using the air box resonator attached to it with something (not sure yet). I wanted to use the air box resonator because it grabs cold air from outside the engine bay (at the grill area) into the engine bay. Now if I can isolate that into a sealed cold air box around the filter I would be happy. For now, this was a cheap (<$20) mod which I was willing to try for now.
