Finally got my tires and rims on. Had the rims since april and have just been waiting to get a hold of some decent tires at a good price. Ended up getting some Federal EVO 595 in a 255/35/20 97YXL. No rubbing, no issues whatsoever. The tread pattern is quite aggressive looking so I aint surprised why there is a hint of road noise (not that it bothers me :) )

Let me know what u guys think.

nice!

Sweet! Though I have to ask, how much rougher is your ride with low-profile tires?

Thanks for the praise guys! The suspension is completely stock and the wheel offset is + 35mm. The lower profile tyres have stiffened the ride up a little, nicer around corners (less roll) and has a bigger footprint now that each tyre is 255 wide. Will just have to wait and see if it affects mileage.

I assume you in Australia. Correct me if im wrong. Anyway I used to get about 11 to 12.5 L/100 on says on the dash with stock 215-60-17. Now i get about 12.3-13.5/100km on 245 45 20. With mostly in city. Gets around 360 Km per tank before computer says low flue. I only add V-Power from Shell.

Let me know you mpg and type of flue you use Cheerz.

My Pat is strictly street. The only terrain I encounter is my driveway, the speed humps at work, and the nature strip at my folks' place! Hehe...don't have to worry about rocks, only potholes!

Oh jia, I get around 400kms with 3/4 tank used. I not a great believer in premium unleaded use on our cars, didn't make any difference in mileage when I tried several consecutive tank fulls of differing brands (BP Ultimate/VPower/Vortex 98). Just an expensive exercise that proved what it states in the users manual "use of premium fuels not required as it would not make any impact on economy..." or something like that. Just from my experience.

i like it! just curious how accurate the speedometer is after swapping for such a large tire. i was thinking about getting some taller tires that better fill up the wheel wells, but with a different tire circumference, i would think that the speedo would give inaccurate readings.

i know aftermarket speedos can easily be adjusted for tire/gear changes, just wonder if/how it can be adjusted on the pat?

The main reason why I had to choose 255/35 over other sizes in the 20inch range is to maintain the OEM rolling diameter. My Pat came with 215/60/17 Continentals so I had to match that. Unfortunately for me, I had no other choice other than the 35 series that i bought to ensure my speedo read true. I have search this forum and found that others have put on 245/40, 245/45, etc.... but they are running on different diameters to stock and hence, their speedo would be slightly off. It's law here in Melb that the difference in overall rolling diameter from OEM could be no more than 15mm.

Looking good, i'm also from Vic although in the country.

Did you know if you didnt mind running the legal gauntlet you can have your speedo recalibrated at your local Jeep dealer via their scantool. I had to when my 22's were fitted. It seems +35 is the perfect offset on a 8.5 inch rim with 255 wide tyres.

Too bad you didnt get the diesel, even with the 22s mine still averages ~8.0 L/100 around town (a full 1.0 L/100 more than the stock wheels)

More Pics

Thanks guys for the other helpful info re: speedo recalibration. The mileage has remained around 9.8L/100kms so far (after 400kms). Will find out the true ratio when I fill up next. So far, been getting positive responses from onlookers:smiley_thumbs_up: Woohoo!

Sorry for the average picture quality, they were taken with my phone camera. Oh btw, have just installed dummy OEM fog lights today and it has mildly changed the look (thank God for Ebay!) and I have plans to add some other small personal touches to the exterior. More pics to follow...;)

Hey broadz, where did you get them sidesteps? Am interested in getting some for my ride.

Mine were factory fitted when I bought it. I was lucky enough to get the $3000 "freedom pack" at no extra cost. It came with side steps, tow bar, nudge bar, window weather sheilds and bonnet protector.
They will quite often come up for sale on Ebay as no one wants them. They are a pain in the ar5e and you will end up ripping them off on the smallest of speed bumps.
I have to do the "commodore shuffle" over speed bumps at shopping centre car parks or it scrapes. Rather embarrassing considering its a Jeep.

BTW: ground clearance with side steps is a measily 120mm unloaded and drops as much as 30-40mm with a full car load.

I guess I might want to reconsider, knowing the numerous speed humps I encounter at work!!! I was interested in getting steps coz I feel it gives the illusion that the Pat's ride height (wheelarch-over-tyre clearance) is lower but, at the compromise of ground clearance over humps, forget it :( Might have to invest in H&R lowered springs later down the track.

20x9.5 and +40 is more of a RWD style wheel, definately not suitable for a patriot. Patriots have very narrow wheel arches and speaking from experience, an 8-8.5 inch wide wheel is about the maximum. My 255's (on an 8.5 inch wheel) are within a couple of millimeters from rubbing on the inside and dead level with the outter edge of the guard

Ideal tyres for 20 inch would be 245/40 R20, its about 3/4 of an inch taller overall diameter the stock 17s

20 inch srt wheels from the caliber would look awsome on the pat...lowered and even better.
