Aleatory fuel level indicator

Hello,
I have a Jeep patriot 4X4, 2009. For almost 2 months I have aleatory indication of the fuel level. Originally, I thought one of the pumps do not work properly anymore, so because I didn’t know which is defect, I bought both and replaced by myself. Unfortunately for me, even with the pumps changed, the problem not disappear. I fill the tank full, drive 5 minutes on the road (even highways) and the gouge show me between ¼ to ¾ gone. Stop the car in a store parking to buy something, fuel tank is “full back” Driving again, same problem again for the indication.
I tried to secure the connector on the fuel units, but do not solve the problem.
Any ideas?
Thank you

I've had that problem in two vehicles over the years, no make that three. In each case I just remembered to fill my tank at the appropriate interval. Considering the small tank in a Patriot that probably means every 250 miles though just tonight I filled up at 335 and it only took 10.5 gallons. (The gauge works fine in my Patriot; my post is about other vehicles I've owned).

In two of the above three instances, the problem began after I'd run the tank to empty. One would never indicate above 1/2 and spent most of its time fluttering all over the place. The other never went below half, so as above, I had to ignore the gauge and remember to fill up every so often. The other just never moved from E, and as I said, I just had to estimate where it was at by my miles.

Oh, I see you're new here. Please drop by the newbie threads and introduce yourself to the others. Nice crowd on here.
