Finally finished residency and time to replace my Corolla (base model without power windows/locks!) I've always wanted a 4runner (trd offroad/pro), and the Jeep Patriot was not on my radar, but a friend told me to take a look and I'm getting very interested. I like the look, the size, and that they come with 4x4 for the price. A few questions before I pull the trigger.
1. I can afford a 4runner, but that doesn't mean I want to spend 39k when a 4x4 Jeep Patriot will do the job. Local dealers are selling brand new 2017 4x4 Patriot sports for $12400 and 4x4 latitudes for 14000...is there a catch? I've never seen new cars so cheap.
2. What is the reputation for safety? Would you trust it with car seats for a baby?
3. Does anyone have experience with sport or latitude 4x4s for offroading without the FD (am I understanding correctly that the FD is additional off road package?)? I would add skid plates and off road tires myself after purchase.
Thanks in advance for reading and answering my questions!
