hey Guys, Today I was talking to a mechanic here in europe about my concerne about oil. He told me that 5w 20 that we use in north america. is actualy creating more problem for the engines. he was telling me that the 5w 40 full syn oil, is better to prevent sludge in the engine and will give you better over all engine protection. Anyway I hope that this might help some of you.

hello my name is Seb. I'm the owner of a jeep patriot 2009, I recently moved to germany, and had to get and oil change on my patriot. The jeep dealership that I went to told me that the do not have the 5w 20 oil, the use the 5w 40 full syn instead. I'm little worry that the oil might damage my motor. Does any one no if that will damage my engine. My engine is the 2.4 vvt. Thanks
My name is Ron- I live in the Netherlands, my Patriot is a 2007 2.4.(on LPG)
The dealership always uses the 20W40, as they don't have the 5W30. No problems yet, after 40.000 km. (5W30 is especially for really cold weather--we never have that here, but it can be cold in some parts of Germany)
For my last car, Chevy Equinox, I could get the 5W30 at the importers shop.
Sometimes I find it at a gas station and buy it for filling up.
In the forum here I read oil is changed every 3 to 5000 miles in the US, here the european instruction manual says every 12.000km.
