i wonder how many people who participate in the program either already have unmanageable debt OR will end up losing their job this year so then this new vehicle will be repossessed...
i think it's great that the government is getting people to buy, but the debt is accumulating somewhere in the equation...in this case most of the debt will be added on the deficit that this country's government currently has. throw in some more debt when people lose their jobs and these new "CFC" vehicles get repo'd
throw into the equation how many reports people have been posting about here on the forum, about dealers trying to be shady and acting like this "CFC" rebate is taking a chunk out of their profit margins, yada-yada-yada, so they have to sell the vehicle at full MSRP. there are probably several instances of people walking into a dealership, out with a new vehicle from the "CFC" program, and they actually paid more for it than if they walked into the dealer and haggled for a vehicle. if i was in the market for a new car, i would walk into the dealership and tell them i do not have anything to trade in. once i have haggled to the absolute rock-bottom price they are willing to budge having fought bitter tooth and nail, then i will drop the fact that i have a clunker i will be giving to them for the $4,500 gov't rebate PLUS i will demand their matching program. THAT is the way to buy a new car, or else you will get the shaft and your gov't rebate + matching incentive will come off the MSRP and NOT off the fair price you haggled for. it's a form of a scam dealers are trying to do and make extra profits (combined with the MAP-Market Adjusted Price B.S.) that dealers are trying to pull and people need to watch out.
