welfare expands

Cash for clunkers is a welfare program that touches both individuals and companies. As a moderately high tax payer I resent paying for someone else's car. Oh well welcome to the world of change. Just remember when you take too much from the achievers they will find a way to remove the monkey from their back. Atlas is shrugging.

So you prefer giving your tax dollars to businesses that ran themselves to the brink of collapsing the whole economy? I'd rather have my tax dollars go to people then huge corporations any day of the week.

There's nothing wrong with welfare IF it's doing what it's intended. Helping people get back on their feet. The problem is the people that abuse it.

What burns me is all the happy customers allowed to purchase cars that are not U.S. made. As in, companies incorporated in the US and Assembled in the US. This rebate should only apply to domestic based vehicles. Ford, Chrysler and GM, Tesla, and other small manufacturers.

well 2B should add another 2 weeks to the program at the current burn rate. Guess they will be asking to print up more money by August 15th for the program to end in Nov.

i wonder how many people who participate in the program either already have unmanageable debt OR will end up losing their job this year so then this new vehicle will be repossessed...

i think it's great that the government is getting people to buy, but the debt is accumulating somewhere in the equation...in this case most of the debt will be added on the deficit that this country's government currently has. throw in some more debt when people lose their jobs and these new "CFC" vehicles get repo'd

throw into the equation how many reports people have been posting about here on the forum, about dealers trying to be shady and acting like this "CFC" rebate is taking a chunk out of their profit margins, yada-yada-yada, so they have to sell the vehicle at full MSRP. there are probably several instances of people walking into a dealership, out with a new vehicle from the "CFC" program, and they actually paid more for it than if they walked into the dealer and haggled for a vehicle. if i was in the market for a new car, i would walk into the dealership and tell them i do not have anything to trade in. once i have haggled to the absolute rock-bottom price they are willing to budge having fought bitter tooth and nail, then i will drop the fact that i have a clunker i will be giving to them for the $4,500 gov't rebate PLUS i will demand their matching program. THAT is the way to buy a new car, or else you will get the shaft and your gov't rebate + matching incentive will come off the MSRP and NOT off the fair price you haggled for. it's a form of a scam dealers are trying to do and make extra profits (combined with the MAP-Market Adjusted Price B.S.) that dealers are trying to pull and people need to watch out.

I find it is interesting how it makes a difference to some members which party uses tax dollars foolishly.

I have no issue with stimulus spending, just stimulus spending that doesn't work.

This works. It's going to effect a huge spike in all kinds of industries, from dealers, to trucking, factories, and that means jobs, jobs for people that can spend in other industries.

The economy is all about housing and cars.

C4C is a success, and a warranted one.

The first stimulus package?.....not so much.

$1000 for purchase of imported car
$2000 for purchase of foreign brand made here.
$3000 for purchase of domestic car made outside US borders.
$4500 for purchase of domestic cars assembled in the US.

This would be the correct way to distribute the CFC spending.
