I forget which axle hub was larger -- I presume the Wrangler -- so when I tried to interchange the wheels (both 16") on one there was a gap surrounding the hub so the vehicle's weight would have been on the lugs only, and that was not a fit I was comfortable with. On the other vehicle the wheel would have jammed onto the hub and figuring I might one day want to take that wheel off, I went no further with my experiment. I doubt the fit would have been true anyway. But yes, the lugs lined up with the holes in the wheels -- as I said above, the size difference in axle hubs was the problem. I say don't do it.
Ya know, it was the darnedest thing. I really tried to get my Wrangler tires/wheels on my Patriot, but I just couldn't do it. After deciding I couldn't interchange the wheels, I tried mounting my 225/75-16s on my Patriot wheels, but the clearance was too close for my comfort.
I've gotten into a couple verbal scraps with others on the site over whether 225/75-16s will fit -- I say no. It may be that later years were lifted enough to make it work. But as for the wheels, that sloppy fit made it a no go. I'm not a risk taker -- the last thing I want is a tire/wheel failure at highway speeds.
