I bought my patriot in september. It has 3,000 miles on it and I have experienced the same issue about 10 times. One time it died at a red light, but started right up? The other 9 times (happens completely randomly) it wont start on the first turn of the key. I turn the key and it sounds like it wants to turn over, but i have to release the key and turn it once more and it starts right up? Smooth once it starts... This seems to happen if I let the jeep sit for a few hours and then go to drive it somewhere... if it sits over night the issue doesn't seem to happen as frequently? The dealer wants to charge 125 an hour to find the issue, when the vehicle is under warranty!! Can anyone help me out?

can try going to an chain auto shop to have the scan for codes, most scan for free,
hard to tell whats going on,
fuel related? electrical? sensor? battery?

I second what dinoco said find another dealer. Your Patriot is under warranty and you shouldn't have to pay if there is an issue even if it's intermittent.
mine kinda does it too, started last summer, very intermittent, let us know if you find a solution
