2011 jeep patriot, 2.4 l , has ran fine since i rebuilt it last fall... went out to start last saturday, starter turns over , wants to continue cranking, but engine wont start.. dash shows two backwards brackets )( with an electrical "bolt between them ... I assume that this is either a wireless throttle issue , or possibly a bad throttle body... anyone else have this happen to them ??? Where should i start first??? any help would much appreciated !!! Thanks !!!

That symbol is saying there's a problem with the electronic throttle control. There's a servo that opens and closes the throttle (instead of a throttle cable), and that servo likes to die, apparently.

It may be that the throttle plate is gunked up and the servo can't turn, or that the servo is going bad. Most likely, based on the experience of others in this forum, it's probably the servo. That, or a problem at the ECU.

 

Jeep Patriot 2011 sport...

Vehicle was a salvage car, I bought it at auction, light slow sppe front hit, replaced hood, coolers,pass side front fender dash and wheel bags... curtain bags did not deploy.. had 71k on the clock when i bought her, now has 86 k ...tried starting fluid on it last night , she sputtered once, tried it again, nothing.. is the servo built into the throttle body, or is it a seperate component ??? gonna tear into it on friday and see what i find.... any help is greatly appreciated !!! Thanks !!!

If now she sputtered with starting fluid where before you got nothing, it might be a fuel supply problem. Can you check the fuel pressure? Fuel pump fuse or relay bad? Immobilizer acting up?

Thanks for your info , everyone !!! gonna pull the throttle body , and start from there... local yard has a throttle body aasy. for $ 65.00 with a 90 day warranty, if it comes to that... just curious, but would a bad fuel pump throw a drive by wire light on the dash ??? , or is that strictly for the throttle body servo ??? Thanks, again !!!
