Well , I purchased a used patriot and I never made it home in the vehicle. On the way home something snapped in the front requiring I get the vehicle towed to a nearby garage. On inspection the garage said the front K-frame tore and that’s why the passenger front wheel was now pointing in the wrong direction. Known problem and covered by extended warranty. Off goes the Jeep again being towed to a local dealership. The manufacturer will not cover towing fees. ... and right away the person at the service desk advised that the warranty only covers the part and labour only and anything else including damage to other parts due to the k-frame snapping will not be covered. Also it might be 2 weeks before the vehicle gets inspected for repair?!?!? ...and she has seen customers have to pay out thousands of dollars in additional expenses. I must say not a good first experience at all.

Welcome to the site, Dosmond. You have just learned why the previous owner sold their Patriot. As with every used car, the previous owner knew repairs were needed -- maybe a bunch of small items, maybe a big one, maybe a combination. No one sells a perfectly good car unless there is some unusual circumstance; that is the exception and not the rule.

Most Patriots don't have rusted subframes but a significant minority have. If you're getting anything under the warranty, take what they're giving out. In the US the warranty is voluntary, only for the original owner, and only for 10 years. Of course there may be other parts that are worn as well.

Question: Who's doing the work? I hope not the place that sold it to you. I wouldn't trust them to fix a lawnmower.

Presuming you towed it to a reputable dealer, it's a legitimate question if you want them to reinstall the worn parts that arent' covered or get everything fixed at once. I'd guess it's probably cheaper to do it all at once since you're only paying for the additional parts. It's the same amount for labor whether they install the worn parts or new ones. Then at least you've got something that shouldn't give you trouble for awhile.

Please let us know how you make out.

Oh, please tell us more about your Patriot. Year, drive-train, etc.

Can’t agree more with the comment above regarding person knowing this was an issue. Really taking advantage of the situation. I always get underneath the vehicle and have a good look around to see just how much rust is there. Then make a determination on buying it. I know people should not have to expect to do this but then atleast take it in somewhere close by for an inspection.
