Not that I noticed, at least not on mine. I had the back apart installing the liftgate actuator and all I saw were wires for the license plate light and the washer tube. I may have missed it though.

 

I have the liftgate speakers and they really are no big deal. They add some highs to listeners in the rear seat but they lose any ooomph when used with the liftgate open. I would be more inclined, if the speaker harness is available in the liftgate, to create a stereo jack and plug in a boxed set of 6 X 9s that can push better.

 

Hmm, good idea for those who have it. You could use the speaker wires as line level inputs to an amp and an exteral full-range or subwoofer box and only have to run a power line to it. That would simplify things for anyone wanting to add either but yeah like you said you could also just leave it as is and run the wires to external speakers in a box by themselves. What size/brand/type of speakers are in there anyway, just curious.
