'09 Armrests in Earlier Patriot?

Has anyone installed the new 09 Pat's armrests in their 07 or 08 vehicle? I was at the dealer for an oil change and checked out the 09 - I really like the new armrests. Parts wanted $129 each for them. Installation is $100 each, so the total would be about $500. I am not sure I want to do that.

I am wondering how hard it would be to install them myself. Anyone tried it yet?

Prolly doors......I'm more of a console leaner, I would do the console first.
I may just go past my dealer today and eyeball the console.

GB1, I stopped by my dealer today and the parts mgr. looked up the s/n# for me, but he had no pricing. He's only guessing but he thinks the console top will fit the '07 & '08s. I'm thinking of calling my sales guy, he wasn't on 'til one, and "borrowing" one to check the fit. It may be as simple has removing the 3 screws from the topside of the hinge and screwing on the new top. THAT WOULD BE SWEET, if it's that easy. I just got a fax of the console parts diagram, it looks promising. The lower console is very similar in this diagram.
Anyone know if this has been tried yet?
I'll post when I find out.
Keep us up to speed on the doors.

GB1, did you get a price on the console while you were there?
I think I paid $200 for a Honda Element super armrest back in '03, but this is just parts to a whole.
The schematic is showing what I think is about 7-pieces that make up the console armrest (upper). One piece looks like an adapter for the original lower glovebox/cd stash. Looks like it goes right over the existing glovebox/cd stash. Knowing enginneers, they like re-using anything existing if it works and doesn't require change, so the glovebox looks more like the original and hopefully is.
After a cup of coffee I'm going to remove the existing console top and see how it goes.

If folks around here keep modding the fronts of their Patriots a with the new fancy "deer in the grill" mod, it might not be 10 years before they start popping up in junk yards:D Sorry MemorEsto, I couldnt resist.

Apt - The upper part of the door panel looked the same to me.. so if you rest your arm on that (probably when the window is down) then unfortunately this mod will not help you. The inside of the doors have an armrest area that is a different colored plastic than the rest of the door panel - only that has been changed on the '09s, using a soft padding.

SnoKat - I don't know about the center console, but it did look better to me. Differences that I noticed on the 09 were

- the door armrests are padded
- the dash has been redone to a more curvy design. Functionally, it is the same.
- the storage area above the glove compartment has a better looking lip now - no more cheap looking stuff there anymore. The new one has a chrome accent (I think) and looks 100% better.
- They moved the cup holders forward and now have a little storage spot in the back, making drinks more accessible (I actually suggested this in a writeup I put up in epinions - maybe they read it?). But instead of two small storage spots I think there is only one now..
- Like you mentioned, the center console has been reworked: it now has a small flip open hinged area on the top and the one we already have at the bottom. I think the iPod holder is gone now (?!?) which doesn't bother me since I never used it anyhow (how can you rest your arm on that and have the iPod in there at the same time?). It looks better too.

All these things are refinement, stuff you would expect them to improve. You would wish that they could have gotten it right from the start, but Rome wasn't built in a day either.

Sgtarky - ha ha.. I know what you mean. But they always hit you on parts. I mentioned in the headrest thread that Toyota wanted about $375 for a headrest !!!! I flipped! I asked the fellow then what does a seat cost and he said it comes in parts and that all together about $1500 ! Insane.

I am talking only about the hinged top of the center console. I won't change the whole console out. Yikes! Engineers, I am not, try to keep things simple and re-use anything in a design. I would not be surprised if the door panels as well as the center armrest fit easily.
Here is a pic the new concole. View attachment 3291
The thing for me to do next is to measure the distance from the hinge plate to the slot where the latch clicks in. If it is the same distance, BINGO, this would be an easy mod.

Why is there no outlet in that pic of the 2009 centre console??
Did they relocate it?

It's probably a base model without the 110v outlet.

That pic is of a Compass, I'm not sure, but the 115v outlet could be an option as well.
I still haven't used the outlet yet, but I'm hoping to run my laptop at a star party this winter on it.
