I can't find anything on the New Select Trac II....

I noticed that those are the 4x4 options for the 08 Liberty. I wonder which is better off-road and how much of a difference they get in gas mileage...

Anyone know? (I checked on their page for learning about the various systems... the Select Trac II isn't on there)

That is the exact difference. With the old Selec-Trac you could manually shift from 2WD to Part-time 4WD, Full-time 4WD, Neutral, and 4WD-lo.

With the new system you have 2WD, 4WD Auto (full-time) and 4WD-lo which is the same 2.73 modifier it has always been.

Further, the older models required manually shifting using a lever....the new models have a simple electronic switch/button.

As far as off-road worthiness, some might argue that since it doesn't have part-time high which actually locks the center differential, it won't perform as well. I can't say, but logically, who needs the diff to actually be locked if you aren't in 4-lo?

Besides, with the full-time, you can actually use the damn thing to its full benefit in the winter months and not have to worry about drive-line binding, cornering, etc.

Yes. But it's not an automatic AWD system like on some other small SUV's (Escape, RAV-4, CRV) since the drive has the option to turn on the AWD or select 4-lo

I'd consider my Select Trac system in my current Liberty to be the most versitile AWD system I've ever owned. I can't imagine the next version of the system being any worse
