I just bought my 2014 Patriot on the 04/13/2013. It's been pouring quite a bit outside and my mom asked to use my car to go to the store. When she returns, she tells me there seems to be a leak in the roof. I go to check it out and sure enough on the driver's side part of the roof is getting soaked. I don't have a sunroof so not sure how in the world this is happening! I called the dealer and they said they have a "water-leak guy" who only comes on Wednesdays and he's gone for the day so I need to wait until next week to drop the Patriot off. Thank God everything is obviously still under warranty since it's brand new but I'm a bit concerned! Is this something that happens often? I mean they have a specific water leak guy????? I'm very upset about this. I don't want anything electrical in the vehicle to get messed up and start even more problems. I got a new car to avoid any problems for a few years. Not looking so good now :(:confused::BLAM:

I've heard our drainage hoses are kind of skinny and can get blocked easily. I doubt any of yours are blocked since it's BRAND NEW!! However I might guess that one of those drainage lines got kinked or bent in a way that hinders the flow. I haven't dealt with anything like that myself but it's an idea at least. Best of luck I hope you get it figured out fast! I hate how badly my convertible leaks.

Wow that didn't take long.... 2013 isn't even halfway over and they 2014's are starting to leak?

At least they have a leak guy that comes on Wednesdays. Chances are they have a leak guy that comes in because they know its a problem, and the leak guy knows exactly what to look for

The OP doesn't have a sunroof tho...

Bad windshield install?

BTW, every dealership I know of either has a water leak guy or has someone on staff who is adept at finding leaks. If you've ever tried to track down a roof leak you will know how elusive it can be...the leak guys have purpose built spray bars and nozzles and fans and whatnot that can pressurize or depressurize the vehicle.

i read somewhere that it's where the roof rails bolt into the roof that aren't sealed well....you have to take off the rails and plug all possible leak points with sealant then bolt it back on.....but i might be wrong

After it is fixed, please follow up here with exactly what problem they found so we can be educated about it.

I bought our 2014 the same month as the OP and so far no problems (knock on wood). I think this is probably a fluke and not the norm, but it certainly sucks when something is not perfect on a brand new car.

The water leak has been problem periodically, throughout Patriot's model years. There is a whole thread devoted to this problem. The cause and location in your Patriot Lizz, probably will have been discussed and solved, and reading these posts will give you something to do, while you wait to take your Patriot back to the dealer. Good luck!

Harold, does your avatar imply you have some experience with this sort of problem? :D Since Lizz doesn't have a sunroof, I think your theory is worth a shot. The only time I've ever had a leak was when I had my crossbars on, and it was so minor -- just a few drips down the rear window -- that I ignored it. I don't usually leave my crossbars on and if I'm carrying something on the roof its not usually raining; probably why it took years for me to even have a leak.

And Lizz, don't be discouraged. I see your post is ancient so by now you've probably got your problem solved. The best car I ever owned was a Pontiac Grand Prix. The first week the radio screwed up and ate a CD. The radio was replaced and I got 1/4 million miles out of that car with only a couple repairs, none significant. I hope your Patriot has proven faithful since that initial problem.

Leak in 2014 patriot also

I also just in last 2 weeks purchased a new 2014 patriot and have leaking in cargo area, coming in around rear dome light. I looked online to see if others have had this problem and it seems to be an ongoing problem for people with the patriot. Seems on some sites people are stating it has something to do with the screws they use to mount the roof rack, being to strong or long, and not being sealed properly, but I've seen other things as well. I'm getting upset as I've just noticed this and see horror storied of people having to continually go back to the dealer and problem never being resolved. To the point people have mold in the vehicles and electrical problems. I just called my dealer and they want me to bring it in and drop it off for the day so they can make the repairs. she didn't really say to much about it, just when I stated that this seems to be a problem, she got a little irritated. I just hope this can be fixed in one trip. I also sent an email directly to jeep.com about this problem, will see if they respond.

7/14/14 well took to dealer back in June was told it was from the antenna which I found hard to believe, they put in new antenna and said was fixed, well as of last night, had bad rain, and is leaking worse. Called dealer back today, have to take back again. also not offered loaner, as the first time I had to be without a vehicle for almost 4 days, told me they can give me a rental they will pay for, but I have to pay a $100.00 deposit and take time from work to get to the rental place before they close. I also contacted jeep.com online chat, and they act like they have never heard of this issue. I don't believe that, as I have seen this has been a problem for many years with this vehicle and its still a problem. I think I will print all the complaints out and take to dealer as well. So off to dealer again, here we go. I'm not happy.

Did you ever get it fixed? One video here on Youtube said its the rear brake light assembly. Part 05116236AF.
Others state it could be the drainage lines in the sunroof, some of you guys state it could be the roof rack, or the double liner going from windshield to the rear. Also, it could be the grommets for the rear hatch in the back, including the brake light wire.

Anyone figure it out?
